The secretary at my school has a daughter who is beginning puberty. She is looking for a good book to help her discuss this with her daughter. She found a great one at Target, but it is purely secular. She would like a book that deals with the Christian religious aspect of puberty as well. However, this book at Target talks about how to take care of everything from your hair to washing properly to how to insert a tampon, everything. I told her I would post here and see if any of you lovely ladies knew of anything that might help her out. She said she could always add the religious aspect to the discussion, but it would be better if it were already there to help the discussion and for when the daughter reads it later, when mom and dad aren't around.

I don't know of any books specifically by title, but you might try looking in Christian book stores near you or asking them there. You can also ask people as church who have teens or preteens near her age for suggestions. Or possibly at the school where you teach.

And as always, check the Amazon suggestions at the bottom of the page. That's money for Snipe!

The American Girl site has a few as well. I can't think of the name of the one we bought for my oldest as she lent it out so I can't just go look at the cover. Amazingly they have more than just dolls.

My girls' pediatrician recommended "The Care and Keeping of You". I got a couple other for the girls as well. I will ask them when they get hone from school what they thought of them. *None of them are specifically Christian though I would have to gather all of them have a message of respecting yourself and making wise choices... don't give in to pressure etc, all of which are morally sound things =)

I think that's the one that the mom was looking at, but she thought it was a little too graphic for her daughter. Her daughter is only in 4th grade, but the mom wants her to be a little informed because she started early herself. I found one written by James Dobson (sp?) who is well known and respected in the Christian community.

I started early - extremely. I will tell you that my Dad - a pharmicist - gave me a book to read in 2nd grade. It sparked all types of discussion. We even went into the Bible and used versus from there. Love Ruth. The girl can read the specifics and the moral should come from the family. As a teacher, I will tell you it is NEVER to early to learn the biological nor the moral and ethical. To be honest, by 4th grade Mom is already going to have to dispel some myths that the child has heard from her friends and picked up in media.
