I was wondering if anybody here has some experience with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and would be willing to answer a few questions for me and share some advice.

I've been trying for over two months now to get my doctor to help me but she's not listening to me and I'm at the end of my rope.

I'm getting mixed answers when I look it up online and I was hoping some personal experiences will help make some sense of this.

I know it's kind of a personal subject so if you just want to PM me I'd be grateful for any help! THANK YOU!

Hey. I've got it. It's more an annoyance than anything else at this point. But yay for metformin!

One of my mother's friends was just mentioning metformin to her today! That's two people so far that have had good things to say!

THANK YOU!!

Find a new doctor........

I started to look this afternoon! I finally got frustrated enough after she called me today (after I'd left 3 messages since Wednesday for her to call me) that it's worth the hassle of finding a new doctor.

What baffles me is that she is the same person who helped my mom through her hysterectomy in May and was wonderful. She was caring, held mom's hand through it all and took great care of her. Me? Not so much. :unamused:

Tell her you're finding a new doctor, and absolutely, positively tell her why.

Did she order an ultrasound for you? Did she check your hormone levels? Does she even BELIEVE in PCOS? I've been on metformin for a while now, and it seems to be helping. It has few side effects for me. Your doctor should at the VERY least be talking about it with you.

I'm there with the whole, It's really an annoyance at this point, but I still sometimes have issues, like right now, I seemed to have skipped this month altogether. And no, I'm not preggers.

Metmorfin, huh? I'll have to ask about that next month when I go for my yearly.

Oh yea... Definately find a new doctor. Tell both doctors why.
I had luck with a gyn that wasn't a practicing ob.

Metformin, aka Glucophage, etc. You can get it as a generic, which means it's usually pretty cheap. My doctor DID say it'd take a long, long time to really notice any changes.

My sister has been on it for a while and her face has cleared up and she is kinda losing weight with it but she has a truck load of other problems along with the PCOS.. But she does feel slightly better with it.

No on both the ultrasound and the hormones. All she tested were my insulin levels, my glucose levels and my thyroid.

And she did finally give me a prescription for the glucophage yesterday.

That seems to the the direction the recommendations are going! My mom's friend's daughter also has PCOS and actually recommended a Doctor close to me that specializes in both fertility and this type of thing. She's done a wonderful job for her so I'm hoping she'll be able to see me!

You should absolutely have the pelvic ultrasound. It's mildly unpleasant, but worth it.

I'm still saying get a new doctor.

Oh, and try this: http://www.amazon.com/PCOS-Diet-Book-Nutritional-Polycystic/dp/0007131844/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199940543&sr=8-4

It's a guide to handling the disease nutritionally. It makes a lot of sense.

Yeah the internal ultrasound was kinda odd. Especially when the doctor asked " Do you want to stick it in or should I?"

I have never seen this book.. gonna have to go find it.

Would you believe I lost my password and was too dumb to discover that I can just ask them to e-mail it to me? >_>

Dragging up this old thread to see how other "cysters" are doing. I finally received a formal diagnosis last week and am now on two different drugs (metformin and spironolactone). Instant results - my appetite is curbed (I'm not ill, just un-hungry) and have dropped 5lbs.

Am working my way up to the "normal" met dosage through the next few weeks.

*wave* PCOS and endometriosis here! Apparently I don't have what it takes for metformin. Doc says I don'[t need it. I've been on the NuvaRing for years and I love it. It has helped the hormonal imbalances that make my "parts" all loopy. Hasn't cured anythign by any means but it has heped a lot.
