Madame Platform

The Guild needs leadership with experience, leaders willing and able to attend to issues as they arise, and leaders who are available during faire hours to meet new wenches, visiting wenches, and any other interested individuals. Our leaders must make the guild their number one priority and commit the time needed to help our guild grow and thrive. I can make this commitment to Local 13. I believe that my 30+ years of experience at faires across the country and my prior service to the local as Dame of the hostel, RESCU representative, and Wench at large make me a very qualified candidate for Madame.

I believe that I am firm, fair, and consistent. I know the Little Brown Book very well and believe we should always follow its guidelines with regards to our behavior at faire. I believe that we were born ladies, but are Wenches by choice. In saying that, I believe that the members of the IWG should strive for a behavior standard that will continue to keep us in the good graces of the faires we attend. The Little Brown Book is our resource for local organization and wenchly behavior. In addition, Lady Sarah and I have started to rework the book to make it specific to Local 13 Information has been gathered from other locals who have their own adaptations of the book to be sure that we are in line with the other locals

As a person who has been extremely concerned with the hostel, I would like to establish hostels at all of the faires in our jurisdiction. We are well on the way to doing this. I believe that hostels are a major indicator of the success of a local. The year we established the hostel at Scarby, I visited several faires across the country to look at their hostels, talk to their Dames, and meet the Madames. The Scarborough hostel is one of the best in the country. We consistently meet and take care of visitors, something that does not always happen at other faires. The Scarborough hostel is up for a vote this year, as we must reexamine our hostel situation every three years. We will need to form a hostel committee and I plan to be a member of that committee. We also know that a new committee will have to be formed to address the TRF hostel.

I would like to see more social activities outside faire. If elected, I would like to have meet and greets in each of our regions. I know things happen to prevent this occasionally, but it is a goal. I would also love to have more participation from the wenches who have been pinned for years and are not taking part in our activities. I would like to see a committee to address this issue.

We have been extremely successful in our charity work, but we can do more. We have been involved in Brian's House, the Race for the Cure, and RESCU. Most faire now have RESCU rallies. We have many wenches who have faire oriented businesses. I would like to see us give from our inventories, even if we are not vending a particular faire. I promise I will make donations from my inventory. I would like for us to continue with Brian's House and with the Race for the Cure. I would also like to see us going out to the airport to welcome soldiers home.

I have the time to devote to the guild that I believe it needs. I essentially work just two days a week (no, I'm not counting all the hours I spend grading papers), so I feel that I will be able to accomplish a great deal for the guild. As Scarborough is my home faire, my attendance there assures that I will be available all day for guild business.

I would like to look into the possibility of splitting Oklahoma from Texas and Louisiana. There are certainly enough wenches in Oklahoma to warrant a separate local. There is precedence for doing this, as when Pennsylvania was split into Local 9 and Local 9 3/4. I know that this subject has been broached before. I would like to take a poll of the wenches in Oklahoma to find out if they really want to be separate. If they were interested, then we could approach Lars on the subject. F the break were to be made, I would be willing to help them form the new local.

Thanks for taking time to read the platform. I would appreciate your support.

Mary
