There just seems something so wrong with the theory "she married beneath her, so we don't gain anything in society...ANNULMENT!". I know that's how it can work in Muslim society (I'm assuming they are, in fact, Muslim), but if her father had supported the marriage, she is transferred to her husband's authority after his death. I'd want to know what kind of persuasion they used to get this power of attorney, and why the studies done were ignored.
