Warning: this is a rant.
Dear Super Bowl organizers,
The next time (if there is one) you think about holding the game in Arizona.....don't. It has become what I like to call a massive cluster fuck. Can someone tell me what jackass decided it was a good idea to erect a giant ferris wheel in the parking lot?? The 101 freeway is now a parking lot within 3 exits...hellooooo people! It's just a fucking ferris wheel ...move on!!
Oh, and then there's the cheesy trophy replica that looks like a tacky silver inflatable sex toy. Don't get me wrong, I love to watch football, but when the state is looking to cut funds in law enforcement and education, spending a metric butt-load of money on this leaves me asking...what...the...fuck?? As far as the revenue from all of this going anywhere useful, Ill believe it when I see it. :unamused:

I was lucky when they had the SB here in Detroit.
I live far enough outside the city to not be affected by any of the traffic or anything like that. However, a TON of money was spent by individual cities on spiffing up overpasses and things like that.
It will be over by next weekend - guess it's just a matter of dealing with it until it's over and coming here to vent when you can't take it anymore. {{hugs}}

You'd think with hosting the Fiesta Bowl every year, and the BCS National Championship Bowl every four years, they'd have all of this ironed out by now.

I'd say the problem their lies less with the NFL and more with the fact that it isn't yet legal to drag rubberneckers from their cars and summarily beat them to death on the side of the road.
(By the way, I'm running for President and that's the only plank in my platform, summary execution for rubberneckers. I think I have a pretty good shot.)
Don't get me wrong, I love to watch football, but when the state is looking to cut funds in law enforcement and education, spending a metric butt-load of money on this leaves me asking...what...the...fuck??
To the best of my understanding, the state isn't spending any money on this, it's all privately funded (pity the same can't be said for most of the stadiums in this country, but that's a rant for a different day). And it's generally accepted that while it's a massive pain in the ass to the residents; the huge influx of tourists and money is a good contribution to the local economy, both in income for private business and generated tax revenue.
But yeah, I know that it's a big bag of suck to have to live in it. If NYC had won their bid to be an Olympic city (for 2012 I think?), I was ready to start planning my out-of-town vacation right then.
I did the same thing back in 2004 and got the hell outta Dodge back when the fucktards descended upon my city for their RNC. The last thing I needed was to get swept up by a giant net and spend the day in handcuffs in an abandoned bus terminal (http://www.2600.com/rnc2004/index.html) just because I forgot to wear a brownshirt.

If they ever remembered that it's supposed to be a FOOTBALL game first and foremost, then maybe the game could be more evenly distributed.
As it is now, the SB can only be in stadiums where it is warm in January/February or domed. Here in NYC and such other places like Green Bay, now that football is a winter OUTDOOR sport.

It's not just the weather anymore. It's the actual condition of the stadium. The Super Bowl has become such a massive worldwide event that the demands on the venue are extreme.
There's only a handful of stadiums right now that can handle the needs of the event. I seriously doubt we'll see another Super Bowl in Minnesota, Miami, or New Orleans until they get new stadiums.
They had it in San Diego a few years ago and it was almost a disaster. They had to truck in about a thousand generators at the last minute to handle the power needs.
Now with Dallas and San Fransisco building new stadiums you can probably expect the SB to go there in the future.

Not only are there requirements as to the condition of the stadium, the NFL has requirements as to how many people can be accomodated by hotels in the host city.
Indy is building a new stadium for the Colts, but it won't help the city land a Super Bowl at all... we don't have enough hotel space.

Not to be a nit-picky bitch, but Dallas ain't building shit. And before you come back with "I meant the DALLAS COWBOYS"... Dallas ain't building shit. *I* and the millions of others in Arlington are building that damned eyesore.
Rae, sleepover here I come. Unless I move out of Arlington.

They are the Dallas Cowboys. People refer to the team as the Cowboys but sometimes they refer to them as just Dallas.

Ironically enough, they've never been in Dallas proper. The team's home is in Valley Ranch and the stadium is in Irving, soon to be Arlington.
I just get seriously irritated at the whole shebang over the stadium and people glossing it over as the Cowboys building it or Jones building it.

From someone who lives in the heart of Kentucky Derby land - I feel your pain. I won't move to Indianapolis due to the big car race mess. My re-enactment group always tries to hold an event that weekend to get away from the city and the madness. They keep adding to the events in the weeks prior now. It's almost a month full of craptastic stupidity.

Y'know... I miss Carburation Day festivities before the Indy 500.
The Brickyard started in 1994... I was already in the Navy and was stationed in Orlando. I've never had the chance to be in Indy for that race. I'm not a big NASCAR fan anyway.
Now... I'm a drag racing kind of guy (my username was based on that fact), so Labor Day Weekend in Indy is my fave, and I cannot wait until I can make it there again! Sadly, it clashes with PARF Labor Day fun.

Zero cost to the taxpayers, but still the most expensive ticket in the NFL. Add to that the $25 for parking and the unholy traffic congestion on game day that affects cities and towns miles away.... yikes.
I'd rather watch from the comfort of my living room.
Then again, I'm a Jets fan.... they don't even have their own stadium.
Or a snowball's chance in Hell for a SB appearance anytime soon, for that matter. ;-)

Our stadium was pretty much built on the backs of kids (education). They have yet to see the money promised as part of the package for building the "silver toilet." I'm sure you are enjoying the hospitality/facilities, so stop whining and bad mouthing my state. Better yet, to quote a favorite movie, "If I had a dick, this is where I would tell you to suck it."

A few years back when they did some upgrades and added some more boxes people were pissed.

I can't wait for this to be over! My rogue doesn't watch football all damned season and both him and his mother are watching it (on 2 different TVs). Glad I found my headphones when I did
Would you believe that one of my best friends, who works at a liquor store, got accused of being a terrorist? All because she "lives in New England, and doesn't like the patriots" (or football for that matter)?!
Seriously what possesses people to think that because you live in a certain part of our country you HAVE to like the local teams (or their respective sports)?
I don't get the point of everyone going nuts about any of it anyways. It's not like the players are going to go around to everyone's house and personally hand them a large check just for cheering them on.

Was anyone else left scratching their heads about the choice for half time shows? Tom Petty-- c'mon you mean there was no one else available for it?
Maybe the Super Bowl Organizers were looking for someone safe and austere (and practically dead) as compared to half times of the past.... Janet's "Nipplegate" and Prince's Phallic overload.
It was sad because when I heard it was Tom Petty I knew which songs he would do. Yup predictable and safe ....how exciting.

"Winning" Super Bowl shirts end up in Nicaragua (http://www.reuters.com/article/oddlyEnoughNews/idUSN1416353120080215?feedType=RSS&feedName=oddlyEnoughNews)
http://i31.tinypic.com/a0uzo8.jpg
MANAGUA (Reuters) - Shirts and caps proclaiming the victory of the New England Patriots -- when the American football team actually lost the latest Super Bowl -- have ended up in the hands of poor Nicaraguan children.
Hundreds of shirts and caps, which had been manufactured in advance to celebrate the Patriots' expected victory over the New York Giants, were handed over to children in the southern city of Diriamba.
"The children are the winners," said Miriam Diaz, of World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization.
World Vision has links with the National Football League, or NFL, and every year helps out poor children in Latin America and Africa with the unwanted "winners" shirts of the team that actually loses the Super Bowl.
Winners' shirts and other garments are produced in advance so players and fans can put them on to celebrate immediately after the final whistle of the game. Garments of the losing team are obviously unwanted.
The Giants stunned the previously undefeated Patriots 17-14 in this year's Super Bowl.

They do that for all of the big sporting events. Heard a joke the other day that there are kids in Africa who think the Bills had a great dynasty in the 90s. :-)
Of course, with a few more resources these kids could put these shirts on eBay and make tons of money from fans of 31 of the 32 NFL teams.
