John Edwards to Quit Presidential Race

By Dan Balz and Howard Schneider

John Edwards will end his presidential campaign today, a source close to the Edwards campaign confirmed today.

The former senator is scheduled to speak in New Orleans this afternoon -- an appearance billed as an ani-poverty speech that is now expected to serve as the platform for ending his White House bid.

Edwards, the party's vice presidential nominee in 2004, has failed to win any of the Democratic primaries so far, narrowly capturing second place in Iowa and finishing a distant third in South Carolina. However he has accumulated dozens of delegates in the process, and a potential endorsement heading into the Super Tuesday round of primaries could be important to top contenders Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) and Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.)

Now the big question is...who will he back?

Could have a significant impact.

Quite the choice isn’t it? Support the Marxist or the one that won’t take a stand on controversial issues.

Well if it's really that simple...I'll take the latter.

At least he's honest about it.

Well we all saw that coming. John takes the high road while Obama and Hillary run through the political minefields chasing each other. I knew he would drop out. He was the Democrat I might have voted for. Now it doesn't matter. I will not vote for either Hillary the two-faced shrew or Obama the sophomore.

Oh, well, guess I vote Republican. ;-)

Yes, just throw the baby out with the bathwater.

That worked out so well for us last election.

She wasn't going to vote Democrat anyway.

Me too. Smaller government, free market. That's why I'm a Republican.

I'm sure you wouldn't even want him to have to get a warrant first.

No matter who the Dem nominee turns out to be, I just hope they have the good sense to use The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" for their campaign music.

Just finished watching his speech. So, it's not his time right now... but he'll be back. I might'a voted for him, too.
