My ticker's in fine shape, folks.
But seriously, get yourselves checked.
It's the number 1 killer of women in the US.

I am fine too.
But that poor man...She planned for so long how truly sad on their wedding day.

So very tragic. Its a major issue for everyone. I still remeber when Olympic Ice skater Sergei Grinkov died during practice. He had never been checked either.

Mine was thouroughly checked pre-surgery. I had a cousin die of a heart attack at 36 and my maternal grandmother died from the same thing in her early 50s.
Sisters, please don't mess around with it. Any family history at all get checked early and often. No family history, get checked around 40 and then consistently after that.
Off my soap box now.

I'd just like to add that getting checked isn't enough. There are many things we can do to keep our hearts healthy and happy.

And ladies please remember that, especially for women, the symptoms aren't always what you think. Most women will become nauseated and have a horrible back ache in the upper mid back. Most (not all) women don't have the grab-the-left-arm-elephant-on-chest issues that we all see on TV and assume are the "classic" heart attack symptoms. And if you or someone you know isn't being taken seriously by a doctor or ER staff - get bitchy! - your life is more important than your poise!
My mentor had a dear friend go to the ER, be told she had "the stomach flu" (I HATE THAT!! THERE IS NOT SUCH THING!!!) because her back ached and she was nauseated. They gave her some pepto and sent her home. She never woke up.
And if, like this lady, you have an underlying condition that could affect your overall health, keep up with it. Don't assume that because you're feeling fine, everything is okay.

I too am learning to be careful and to watch my heart. I have prehypertension from my mom's side, along with family history of heart attacks and strokes. My mom is suffering from near total short-term memory loss from the combination of a stroke and a long history of drinking.
I doubt I can make any scientific connections to it, but I had no problems until after I started taking Vioxx for pain from the fibromyalgia. At the time, I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but now...
I've started walking again (inside as it's bleeping cold outside) and Pilates to strengthen my core before I head to the gym this spring to tone and get my cardiovascular system back in shape. ::runfore:

My grandfather has heart problems. My mother has a heart murmur. I was last checked pre-surgery 5 years ago. I'm planning on getting a complete check-up when I find a new doctor

Two different cardiologists have given me the "well you're a big thing but your heart is beautiful!" talk so I'm golden.
..of course I'd never have seen ONE cardiologist if it weren't for the anxiety attacks
