View Full Version : Thyroid question?

As a lot of you know, I had a nodule on my thyroid 3 months ago.
During an ultrasound asperation, the doctor was able to drain it.
I'm supposed to go back in May/June to get rechecked.
During the day today, I happen to place my hand against my throat.
It feels like the lump has returned, only now it's a bit bigger than before.
It's also a bit painful in that area.
Anyone else that has had this, did yours grow back and if so how long after you had it drained to begin with?

Sorry Bux ....My thyroid makes nodules and then makes them go away part of my lovely version of Hashimoto's. I would go to dr soon.
I hope it is a swollen gland that is going around and not anything more....I will pray it is nothing major.

Call your doctor and get in there to have it worked on again.
I have thyroid problems, but not what you have. I don't mess with my stuff at all. If I'm off a little bit I have lots of troubles...I feel like ca-ca.
Let us know, okay?

Well...as I suspected, that frellin' thing is back. :unamused:
The lab will send the pics to my dr. and then we go from there.
Even doing the ultrasound was painful. I am not a happy camper right now.
If there's a chance of this recurring every few mionths, I want it taken out completely. (the cyst)
No ifs, ands, or buts. Take it out and be done with it.
I don't have the time, patience, or energy to be diddle fartin' around every few months or so.... I have faires to attend!

That's how I would feel, too!
I hope it can be easily and completely resolved for you!

Aw, Bux, I totally agree. Get it removed, if that is an option.
Sorry about the pain. ::hug::

My mom developed thyroid problems a few years ago and when her meds weren't taking care of the symptoms, they found a tumor (cyst?). She had it surgically removed, had a quick recovery and it's made all the difference. She's back to her old self again - and she was feeling pretty darned caca herself! Best of luck with it!

Thanks for that Wendy. Knowing someone else had this and had it successfully removed gives me a lot of relief.
I'll keep everyone updated.

Sort of an update:
I spoke with my GP and it seems that the cyst is back and about as big as when I had the asperation.
He is referring me to a specialist, an endocrinologist (thyroid specialist).
From there, we will see if we can just remove the cyst or if the doctors feel it would be better to remove the thyroid.
Hurry up and wait.

Andreadoria, there's been so much going on with me, it's hard to tell what's causing what.
There's days I'm so tired, I don't want to get out of bed but, at the same time I can't sleep.
Right now, the pain in my throat/neck is pretty bad but, there's really nothing I can do for it.
I just hope the specialist calls tomorrow so we can get this taken care of soon. I'm not one for diddle fartin' around with my health.

UPDATE:
I went and saw the endochrinologist this morning.
He's referred me to a surgeon that I am seeing on the 19th.
I have 3 options:
.....A. biospy, drain and check for any nasties.
.....B. remove right lobe of thyroid and figure out if there are any nasties that require removing the left lobe.
.....C. do nothing for now and see if the nodule gets bigger/more painful.

Bux you have some choices there.
I hate my thyroid!!!
My thyroid function in the last 2 weeks crashed...I couldn't breathe and my muscles were cramping. My meds had to be raised my GP is starting with 25 point raised. I was on 125 mcgs of levoxyl now I have been raised to 150mgs and I think I should be on 200mgs. But that is just me.
I would Love to have my Thyroid taken out...but they cant cause they are afraid my antibodies will attack some other part of my body.
I know you will make the best choice for you. I am sooo sad for you to have to go through this.
I am sending Shrinking thoughts to your thyroid nods now and prayers for pain relief.

The one thing the doc told me that has me a bit apprehensive....
it's not uncommon to 'nick' the vocal cords.
I could end up with a raspy voice when it's all done.
That doesn't bother me.
I just wonder how my purrs are going to sound. :stunned:

every kitty's purrs sound a little different, even from the same kitty they change with life changes sometimes, so I'm thinkin' even if they sound different, they'll still be fabulous

One thing I forgot in all this.
The nodule that's on the thyroid?
It's 3.2 X 3.4 CM. That's a little over 1 - 1 1/2 inches.
About the size of a walnut. :unamused:
Andreadoria
03-12-2008, 09:56 AM
YUCK!!
you have a walnut in your thyroid!!!
I hate when that happens.
My neck is so thick from muscles when I used to lift thing they can barely feel mine ...it tends to swell in and choke me a bit.
I hate rogue thyroids....they never listen just like some Rogues we all know....lol

The thing is, all winter long I thought the swallowing difficulty was from dry air from the heat and a cold mixed with allergies. I never even thought it could do with my thyroid. Go figure.
