Just got back from my annual exam , and after a lengthy discussion with my NP, I have decided to go on a 4-periods-a-year oral contraceptive. I have been on the Pill for over 10 years and skip cycles all the time. They gave me a sample of Seasonique. If I like it, I can get the prescription.

Has any of you tried it? What did you think?

I am on it. My doctor suggested it for my headaches that are tied to my period. I wouldn't say I have bad or good comments about it. For me it's just like any other pill I've taken. My period was pretty normal last time, and I've had no problems with spotting through out the 3 months.

Actually there is one thing I like about it, it costs me the exact same to buy the three month supply as it did the 1 month using my insurance plan.

Do you mind me asking how much you pay? I have no health or prescription coverage and I'm due for my annual this month. (I'm in the process of finding a new gyno, I HATE my old one. She talked down to me and tells me that my issues are just because I'm fat. ::eyeroll:: ) But my old pill, Femcon, makes me a little nutty during PMS. I won't complain about 4 day long light periods, but the PMS is bordering PMDD. Plus, the 65 bucks a month seems steep to me, my old pill was like 30. But they don't make it anymore. :-( I'd really like this seasonal thing...

I don't know what the normal cost is, but I am paying $30 with my insurance. I was afraid it would be $90 (30 for each month). I tried the less days for period as well and that didn't help as much as having less periods total. I don't normally get bad PMS or cramps, so I can't say how it would help there, but it really helps my hormonal headaches. Even better then depo did.

I was informed that because the pills of the "off" week are a low estrogen dose (you have to take them) they have a more low-grade PMS ratio. (No blinding headaches, bloating, cramps and side effects.) I'm looking forward to that.

I'm going to call the Pharmacist tomorrow and check up on the prices. I have decent insurance, my co-pay has only been $10 a month.

I was on it. I liked it. I went off it only because it confused my insurance company to get them to pay for it. I did have initial breakthrough bleeding but nothing problematic. I also liked how it managed my chemical emotion levels.

However, I'm a freaky worrier and decided not to do the three month kind while I had a steady and live in boyfriend. I have to see the little red fairy each month or I'll worry more than necessary and be spending money on a preg test when I freak out, which I will.

I wish I wasn't such a worrier. It was convenient during faire weeks.

Good Luck.

I have found a gyno, but I have to wait 3 weeks for an appointment. I have been off my pill now for 3 weeks and I'm already starting to feel more sane. Femcon = bad for me. But by the time my appoitment comes around, I'll be 6 weeks off and who knows by then.

I'm soooooo gonna ask about this.

Got the info on it.

Wagreen's price is $163.99 for the three month supply. My co-pay is 20% of that, which works out to about $32ish every three months.

So, not cost prohibitive in any way for me with my insurance. (It would be if I did script by mail, which I won't.) Let's just see if it works now...

Most BC pills can be used like Seasonique, too. I'm on Yasmin and use it the same way. It's a wonderful thing! :-D

I used my mothly pill like a seasonal. By NP told me that using a seasonal that has low-dose estrogen pills instead of placebos will make PMS easier, that is why I'm trying it out.

To be fair, I know it works for plenty of people. My doc afterwards even said she wouldn't try it again because of the practically constant breakthrough bleeding she had.

I took mine on time every day the way it was prescribed and still ended up up the duff.

Your mileage may vary.

Additionally, generic orthotricyclin and yasmin proved to have NO control on the birth issue..

It's monthly. :) But I take it continuously for 3 months. I skip the "week off" pills for three packs. Then finish them in the 4th pack.

I didn't have any horrible side effects from Yasmin, so my doc kept me on it rather than switching to the Seasonique.

See that is my biggest reason for not trying these less periods per year pills. I don't want to wait 3 months to find out OOPS...it didn't work and I'm pregnant.

For that reason I am ok with a monthly period.

On it. I dunno if it's the changes from one pill to another to see what worked best for me, but i know it's responsible for some of my weight gain.

Also, it seems to have eradicated my period entirely.....considering i had dysmenorrhea i can't complain, as it's wiped that out too. I spoke to gyno & she said that the no-period thing happens sometimes....all i know is that it's been a lil over a yr since I've had my monthly. I wish i could say i missed it....but i don't. And it only gives me pause when i think about it.

Cool! Fire breathing babies, may result in torched teats though...

All this baby makin' stuff is making my ovaries cry out in that Veruca Salt voice, "but, why can't we have a baby NOW?!?!?"
