All right, I was talking with a friend tonight, and we both noticed that when we are on birth control, our libidos disappear. Now, for me, not too big an issue since I have no one to play with anyways. But for her, her husband is getting annoyed, and so is she. So I ask you ladies:

In your experience, is there a birth control that doesn't completely kill the libido? I've researched somewhat, but I would rather have personal experience. Thanks!

I've never had an issue with my birth control lessening my libido. Actually, sometimes it kicks it up. My advise is to talk with your doctor, there are many different kinds of BC, something should work.

I haven't noticed a difference, though since my first pregnancy (late 2004-jan 2005) I haven't had any libido. Ok, 1 or 2 times, but other than that, I couldn't care less. The hubs isn't happy, but since we see each other a total of 2 hours a day, if lucky, it's become a non-issue.
I agree with Bean. Switch the birth control.

No issues. The only thing that lessens mine is being tired and him being sore from his job. I've been on since my 20s.

It depends on the birth control. When I was on Ortho-Micronor, I still had libido. When I was on Depro-Provera, I had none whatsoever. It made fiance very frustrated and angry at times. I hvae gotten off that shot and my libido is coming back.

No problems here. I've been on BC since high school. Usually the last week of the regualr pills my libido kicks into high gear. Like my body knows I'm not gonna wanna do it next week so you better do it while youcan kind of thing. lol

Personally I am on Depo and I have absolutely no problems with libido whatsoever. I would let your OB/GYN know what is going on and he/she should be able to fix it.

When I was on Ortho-Evra, My libido sky rocketed. This was before it got yanked off the market because it was delivering twice as much estrogen as it was supposed to be. I was also sick to the point of vomiting every time I had to change the patch. I haven't been on birth control since then.

See, now mine kicks in the first week of a new pack, right after my period. I guess it's "yay, that's over, now lets party"!

Well, I am on Depo Provera, and I don't mind not having a libido at the moment, it works for my life. (A little less distracted, lol.) But for her it isn't. Now, obviously we intend to talk to our doctors, but we just wanted input from people who have tried different things, since what the doctor tells you and real life experience can be two different things.

Well I've had my tubes tied since I was 26 so my memories of BC-libido connection are long ago but I don't think ANYTHING has ever affected my libido...

And Kate: I can tell you when I'm ovulating because I'm like a horny bunny (which isn't that far of a stretch from any other day). And it picks up again right before I start my period as well....

I’ve tried the pill, the patch and Depo. To the annoyance of my husband, my libido virtually disappears. Some people it just affects that way and your sort of stuck with thoughs side effects. We don’t want any more pitter patter of little feet right now, so we just sort of deal with it.

there are some non-hormonal BC's out there. my IUD is one of them. BC killed my libido as well, so I'm happy to have something that doesn't interfere with the natural body chemisty.
