Now I'll agree I always found it annoying when they announced. Please hold you applause until the end, and people still feel the need to cheer when their friend, family member, etc. gets called.
But I don't agree with the argument here. Yes, it's a distraction, but I'd think having a police officer drag a person from their seat. handcuff them, and escort them out is even more of a distraction.
When people started getting arrested, do you think anyone was paying attention to the ceremony?

I'm kinda torn on this one..... were they "cheering," or making complete idiots of themselves? I doubt that mere clapping would get someone arrested for disorderly conduct. Showing your support and encouragement is one thing, but whooping and hollering like bunch of chimpanzees is quite another matter.
There has to be something else behind this, I'm thinking.

At my graduation and my siblings graduations, there have been people cheering so loudly and long that you could not hear the speaker announce the next student. We were angry. The administration threatened to stop the graduation ceremony if it didn't cease. My dad said that if they stopped the ceremony because if it and he didn't get to see his child graduate, he would find out who they were and sue them.
If by having people arrested it stops people from causing such a scene then I am all for it. I would prefer stopping the ceremony for a few moments to have that person arrested than to miss hearing my siblings name called because someone is too selfish to think about the people around them and the other students up on stage.

didn't do the clickity click, but I will say that when we went to my middle boys Kindergarden graduation....not only did no one hold their clapping, but there was quite a bit of cheering and acting the fools, then once that child had exited the gym floor, they'd wait a few mins maybe for the rest of the class to finish then get up and walk out! so like in the middle of probably 20 classes or 20+ kids they had to stop and tell people to please NOT exit till after the graduation! none of them were being quiet or being unobvious about it. It was like "oh my kids done I guess I can go now" it was SOOO frustrating.

I do think arresting is a bit extreme, but I would be all for escorting people out. I graduated in hicksville where we had people bring air horns to graduation. They kept going off at random times, during speeches, choir and band performances, ect. The horns were confiscated as they were found. Really, some people have no sense of respect.
I feel bad for the students who weren't given their diplomas and had to do community service, just because their family was being disruptive. Too bad the school officials couldn't force the family members to do the community service...

Except in my experience, the students encouraged or expected the obnoxious cat calls and general ruckus from their family. I would be against it if their was no prior warning of the consequences. When I graduated, we had several lectures and letters were mailed to parent/guardians stating what was and was not acceptable and consequences that could occur, up to withholding diploma. If no warnings were given, then the student should not be held accountable for their family's actions.
