OK, if this girl is "fat", I'm flat chested.

SEXY supermodel Karolina Kurkova is a catwalk queen - but she has been attacked by the Brazilian media for appearing too fat on the runway!

TOO fat . . . Karolina Kurkova

Czech Kurkova was slated in the country for appearing in a bikini with what critics called "back fat, love handles and cellulite".

Kurkova, 24, is best known for being a Victoria's Secret Angel whose superfit physique has graced the pages of fashion magazines around the world.

But her recent appearance at the Cia Maritima show during Sao Paulo Fashion Week had fashion critics up in arms.

An article in a Brazilian paper about the leggy 5'11" Karolina described how "shocked" the audience was when she appeared looking uncharacteristically chubby with "cellulite on her butt."

Kurkova is reported to be one of the world's highest-paid models, according to Forbes.

In addition to Victoria's Secret, she has featured in campaigns for Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Chanel and Balenciaga.

The fashion industry has been under fire recently for its promotion of skinny models and pledged to adopt a more healthy image for young girls who often force themselves to become thin in the battle to secure a place among the top flight.

In 2006, Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston, 21, made headlines when she died of anorexia on the eve of a Paris photoshoot after subsisting on a diet of apples and tomatoes for several months. At 5'8", she weighed just 88 lbs.

In 2007, Uruguayan fashion model Eliana Ramos, 18, died of a heart attack believed to be related to malnutrition. The shocking deaths prompted a public outcry and heavy criticism of the fashion industry for promoting unattainable standards of beauty.

The fashion industry is horrifically two faced and pays only lip service to having models who are of a 'normal' weight. Also, the trash media in no way helps - obviously.

Standard runway size is 2. Some designers will use women who are of different sizes, but 2 is still the standard. So yeah models - go be healthy, but we don't want to see it on our runway.

I don't think she's fat, but that suit does nothing for her and from what I see not too fit either. And of course, the camera caught a strange position that produces rolls on her back so now she's "fat".

If she wouldn't have done the "Paris Hilton Back Arch" to try and produce boobs, she wouldn't have had the back-lines that people are claiming as 'fat'.

And yeah - that suit ain't her best look.

But man-oh-man... hearing that she's too fat... at 24... damn. That's harsh. Nevermind all the young gals who are watching her, who are (maybe) a size larger than she is. What are *they* gonna think? Yikes.

But remember a runway Size 2 is also expected to be about 5' 9" to 5' 10" which is above average height.

I'm a Size 0/2 but I'm also only 5'2" and do not look as prepubescent-boy-like as the models do....not all size 2s are starvingly thin looking. Meeza 2 and meez got curvz.

I do agree though that suit is NOT the right one for her - is it me or do her hips seems really long and flat or something?

And yeah whazzup with that whole thing Paris does - it must kill her back. I wonder if she learned that from Miss Jay....even he doesn't arch THAT much (of course his boobies are bigger....) ;-)

The photos look like they were taken in 1985. All that's missing is the blue eyeshadow, liner and mascara.

I still applaud John Paul Gaultier for having Velvet d-Amour walk his runway. HERE! (http://thetrendsetter.wordpress.com/2007/06/07/ulimate-plus-size-model-velvet-d-amour/) Scroll down for the runway shots.

The media is just exacerbating the problem. Hypocrites.

Typical "trash tabloid media." Probably owned by a 400 pound man who hasn't seen his penis since he was 16 and couldn't find it with 2 hands and a flashlight. Seriously, this is Brazil ladies....home of the "Man Thong"... nuff said.:unamused:

A) she's hot.

B) If this Karolina is too fat, I shudder to think of what they'd say about my gargantuan frame wobbling down the runway. Something about Mr Solo and a space crime syndicate I'm sure

The fashion industry is at least showing som attempt for helping the models look healthy but there are still several countries that arent trying to help these girls.

This is off topic kinda but on at the same time
My sister is a nanny and she has been watching twin girls since they have been in kindergarten. Their mom is obsessed with body image she works out twice a day and she has these girls in every sport from soccer to ski team. And they are built well as a result, but the stupid woman thinks that they are fat! She has them counting calories!! So they were playing hide and seek and one got stuck and mother dearest told her that when she lost enough wieght to get out she would help her!!! OMFG!

Not that it matters (It's inexcusable, no matter their age), but, how old are these girls?

My mom is a tiny woman and not in a healthy way. When I was in my buffest shape from working outside and in the barn, she told me I was too fat and should lose weight. She was constantly harping on me. It's now almost 20 years later, I'm about 4 sizes bigger and am going through daily panic attacks for how I am looking during my dress fittings. My guy loves my curvy body, and we're going to start going to the gym together, so that helps some.

And we wonder why we (as women, generally) are constantly obsessed with our bodies and we don't like the one we've been given?

I agree it was a 400lb man that said this.

She is beautiful...perfect and I just don't under stand ...why are they constantly trying to make people conform to some unattainable body image ... some people are twigs and others are plow horses....all are beautiful...these people must be so unhappy that they must spread it.

I am over weight due to my beloved thyroid ...I was only 5 to 15 lbs over weight growing up...my waist when I was 12 was smaller than the size of a bandanna I was told I was fat ...by my Dad, Mom , Aunts and Uncles..(thank god I knew they were not good people)....cause you could see my girl cousin's ribs...the one uncle would make 4 pork chops for 6 people..(he had the money to feed every one and he was a cop on the take the meat came from the butcher on his beat)......and this was when every one was in the 10 to 16 age range....and when his kids when his kids went to bed him and his wife would pig out. You never wanted to have diner over there cause he was a bad host.

If I was given the medicine at 18 when I started gaining real weight I would not be 300lbs now.

As for that foolish woman telling her girls they are fat....she is truly a sad person.

Pardon me while I let my sailor ways loose for a little bit. And, Kate... PLEASE don't be offended by what follows. This WILL be NSFW!
Tell your mother to fuck off and die. Giving you shit for being voluptuous? Please. If I may be so bold as to say so, I look at your av and think, "she's fuckin' smokin'.
Your mother needs bitch slapped. Hard and often.

And that's the bottom line cuz Sheumais loves curvaceous wenches!

Dear Brazil,

I would like to inform you that there is a thing called "skin" that covers peoples bodies. At times, when people - even very skiny people - move in certain ways, and twist at certain angles, this "skin" will bend, and fold, and sometime produce lumps that are not always there. However, then the person is not bending, or moving, the "skin" will be at rest in it's original form.

However, humans being the moving, bending, and twisting creatures that we are, our skin will never show a 100% perfect form.

So, please, take a look in the mirror before you chastise someone who is a size 2 for being too fat. If you can find no imperfections with yourself, then go ahead and point, laugh, chastise, and make fun of people who were photographed at a not-so-flattering angle.

Sincerely,
Bronwyn A.L.

::rantono:

Now, as far as the bikini goes... I don't see how that little bit of fabric could be good or bad to her figure. There is not enough "there" there to say if it looks nice on her or not.

... Sorry, I'm not much of a bikini fan.

Wow so a 24 year old size 2 woman is too fat. Great there goes the self esteem. Not!

One of the other ladies, posted about her parents telling her she was too fat as a child. Mine did the same thing. When I hit puberty I ballooned at age 12 by age 14 I was in my normal range for my height body type, unfortunately at the time the girls I was sportin were as big as most of the seniors and I was a freshmen, which really screwed up my self esteem. But ever since age 12 my parents have picked at me. Until I was 21 and my mom started in on me while I was home for Thanksgiving. I'd had enough and turned around and looked at her and said "gee mom if the whole world looked like you it would be pretty damn borning, now wouldn't it? not that you have a whole lot of room to talk." Ok so I lost my mind and my mother imediately sarted crying and I felt bad, but I was done. After that she has left me alone about my weight which has fluctuated a lot over the last 10 years. I was wondering if that is just a parent thing in general if the parents aren't happy with themselves they have to pick at their kids???

BAH! You look pretty good, m'lady.

I would never tell any of my kids that they need to lose weight or trim down or whatever. I WOULD tell them to get off their asses and get some exercise, but only to 1) keep them from rotting their brains on Cartoon Network shows, 2) to keep them from driving SM and I stark raving mad (though, as a submariner, it'd be a short drive for me... and for SM because she married a submariner), and 3) just to keep them generally healthy. Truth be told, I WISH I had my middle kid's physique in my proportions. Damn would I be a hottie!
