I knew it!!! I refuse to eat tilapia. They use them in the tanks at the sewage plant I worked at to keep the mosquito population down. I can't eat them after seeing them swimming in the plant. I call them poo fish.

Ever since I saw them eating poo coming out of hippo heinies I've steered clear of them. Thank goodness!

"Tilapia has higher levels of potentially detrimental, long-chain, omega-6 fatty acids than 80-percent-lean hamburger, doughnuts and even pork bacon," write the Wake Forest researchers

Mmmmmmm ... donuts

Mmmmmmm ... bacon

When I was at Penn State, we had a student from Africa researching tilapia as a potentially major food source for his country. I never liked it myself as I prefer what I call steak fish - salmon, tuna, swordfish, shark.

Tilapia has been on the menu for about one day a week for the last few months. Mom and I both love it, and it's really quite a versitile type of fish. Too bad it's not good for you anymore. lol Ain't that always the way?

What other kids of fish can I buy at the supermarket that are similar? I love it all, but tuna, salmon and swordfish are out as my mom refuses to eat them. She's picky like a kid. lol

Well, tilapia is a "white fish" so catfish and cod and things like that are similar - I have zero idea about their nutritional content tho. Wild Salmon is really *incredibly* healthy for you - what does she object to about it?

Haddock, sole, flounder, all of those are pretty mild white fish. As far as I know, no health warnings on those. They can be pricey though, I try to get whatever's on sale.

The marlin in Jamaica was pretty good. ;-)

(And I almost always only like raw fish.)
