Ok, we agree that we disagree on our current candidates. Rather than extoll the ones of our choice and dis the other, let's build our own.
A few basic rules:
No references to other politicians, living, dead or pretend. (I know we would all like to vote for Jed Bartlett)
No “Clintonian” or “Reaganesque” or invoking Gandhi or Disraeli, etc.
No Carl Rove, no James Carville.
Try to distill what it is that you like about a person and use that in your description.
No references to political parties.
Try to avoid using the terms “Conservative” and “Liberal” and their ilk as descriptors.
I'll start.
I'd like to see a well-educated Economist with a serious personal love of the study of history. Possibly a minor in History. I would like to see a diverse series of schools. No "Honorary" degrees unless they come later in life and after study in their chosen field is complete.
I would like to have seen them work in one of the three branches of our government, run a state or a large corporate business with distinction.
Military service is a plus. Their service does not need to be combat related but if having served in a war, they are highly recommended by their fellow servicemen.
I would rather not see a lawyer or a professional politician (they have a skewed vision of reality.)
I would like to see them exist in a fruitful and faithful long term relationship. I would hope that their families are extended and that they grew up in a whole family with many members, biological and non-biological. I want the people who lead me to know where they came from. I would hope that they or at least their parents were of the middle class and had to work for the things in their life.
I would like them to be forthright, have a love of what is best for the country, believe in the sanctity of personal rights with respect for what is good for the rest of the people, stand behind their beliefs and not hide behind rhetoric when faced with hard questions. I want them to stand by their past descisions. I want them to stand with the communities that they have been involved in and worked for.
