I don't even need to look-- it's about the latest assassination attempt? The one including black schoolchildren?

There's been such an incredibly downward spiral in human rights in this country the last few years, as some minds seem to get narrower and narrower.

You know, I'm thinking that having a black president will cause all of these nutjobs to come streaming out of the woodwork, and that's actually a good thing.

This way, they can be identified and dealt with. It's as if Obama is some kind of a Pied Piper for crackers, leading all the rats out of town.

Remove them from the general population so that they are less likely to influence future generations.

Yanno, while I completely share your angst, disgust and and revulsion of this kind of hate-mongering and displays of complete ignorance ... I for one am kind of glad to see it. What the hell you ask?

Well, at least with these folks, you know what's going on in their feeble little brains. It's what goes on inside the minds and taint the actions of the "good people" that troubles me. Institutional racism does far more harm to the relationships between races than the local sheet-wearing skinhead because it's so insidious. Since it hides behind smiling faces of so-called forward-thinking people, it has created a backlash of suspicion from people of color. It works both ways. If you're a person of color in a predominantly caucasian environment - you don't know who really views you as a peer of equal standing or just tolerates you because it's the "white" thing to do.

I've found that oftentimes people in the workplace may develop office friendships with individuals of another race and actually view them as a peer ... in the workplace. But were they to be invited to the home or a special event - perhaps a wedding or a baby shower - of their workplace friend - the likelihood of them actually attending, having a good time and not being uncomfortable are pretty low. Yet they probably don't understand why their friend does the same thing in reverse. Oftentimes white folks think they're being really open-minded because they have a "friend" of another race, yet would wonder why their friend wouldn't attend a personal function in a predominantly white environment.

Or for all the people who don't mind working alongside those of other races would absolutely blanche if they found out their coworker was purchasing the house next door to theirs and would be the first family of color in the neighborhood. It's caused entire neighborhoods to be uprooted probably millions of times. It's called white flight. Or the NIMBY (not in my back yard) syndrome.

BUT - while I have two mixed-race children and have often been the only white girl in the midst of a bunch of black folks - I fully appreciate that hardworking people don't want to see their neighborhoods overrun by the kind of lowlifes represented by the gangsta rappers - or more recently - the brother-in-law of Jennifer Hudson. Katie bar the door if some lowlife like that is moving in next to me!!!! The only difference between me and a lot of other folks is that I don't give a damn what freakin' color you are, where your ancestors came from or whether you celebrate Yom Kippur, Kwaanza, Christmas, Halloween or the return of the mothership! What I care about is what your core values are, how you raise your children, how you care for your home - your spirit. If you can afford to live in a particular area and it is your desire to do so, adhering to the agreed-upon culture of the area - go on with ya!!!!

And frankly - my particular quirk in the concept of Barack Obama becoming the first "black" president of the United States ... he's not. His mother is white American, his father was a black African - I guess that does make him the first "African-American" president, but it doesn't make him the first "black" president. It makes him like about 70% of rest of us - a Heinz-57 mixture. Besides which, while we may all be proud of our various heritages - be they racial, ethnic, national, religious, etc. - we seem to forget that we're all Americans. Period. Not African-Americans, not Irish-Americans, not Italian-Americans. Just ... Americans. I was reminded of this (very sternly) by a lovely Irishman I used to work with who told me (on St. Patrick's Day) that I was NOT Irish, I was American. HE, is Irish. He did permit me to describe myself as an American with some Irish ancestry - but that's it.

So - maybe I've talked myself in a circle. Technically - negro is another word for the color black. I don't really know *any* truly black people. I know some really, really, REALLY dark brown people - but no black ones. And although I'm pretty pale - I'm not exactly white. I'm more polka-dotted - freckles, moles, age spots ... gah! And my sons - they're not gray - which is what you *should* get if you mix black and white. Nope - not gray. More a beautiful coffee-and-cream color - my older a bit more coffee than his brother.

And what about Asians - they're not really YELLOW yellow. I mean not a sunshine yellow or even a pale butter yellow. Or American Indians - who aren't Indians at all, but actually share ancestors with Asians ... who share ancestors with middle easterners. Who, by the way, all us "white" folks come from, too.

Now unless you live in Kansas or allow the fears of mortal men shape your mind - the Human Genome Project has proven we all come from one female. (I'll refrain the man jokes here.)

So - long story short (cuz I love to do that), I don't get the thing about skin color. But I DO get the thing about evil, hateful people. They come in ALL colors. And having raised children of "color," in various communities - I frankly just don't give a shit about them.

Who is?
Obama?
He's not. He's only 1/8th black. That doesn't even qualify him as being African American. It's his skin tone that makes people think he's black.

I'm SO over the whole race issue... there are people voting for him because they think he's black... there are people voting against him because they think he's black...
silly, actually
I'm not voting for him. I don't care what colour he is. I disagree with his politics.
Does anyone vote for candidates because of where they stand on the issues anymore?

As for these scumbags in TN... they planned to kill 88 black children in schools... and people are focused on a 'possible' plot to kill Obama.
That is the real crime here.
I'd like to see them fry for wanting to kill 88 innocent children.
There's no need to even bring an unconfirmed report into play.

Hmmmm - don't know who you are - or where you took your math. And not that it matters - to be 1/8th black - it would mean the last black person in his family tree would have to be his great grandparents.

He's 1/2 black. His mother was white. His father was black. He's 1/2 black. Now, had his father been American rather than Kenyan - and if he had other white ancestors (as most black Americans do), OR - if his mother's family had black ancestors, then you might be able to make a case that he's somehow less than 1/2 black.

His skin is the tone it is because of his mixed-racial heritage. Had he had children with a white woman - his children would most likely be lighter than he is. But maybe not. If they continued to reproduce with only white people - their complexions would get lighter each generation because it would become a recessive trait.

If race doesn't matter to you and you just don't like him because of his politics - that's your perogative. And if you look back at one of my responses about him being "black" you might understand more where I'm coming from.

But sorry - to say he's 1/8th black is just ignorance on your part.

well, for the record, he IS 1/8th
as for MY math, one might wish to question Senator Obama on it... as by his own admission, he is more Arab than black.
Once again, it's a moot issue. The day I vote for or against someone based on the colour of his or her skin... or his or her gender... or national origin...

that was my point.
Many people are openly stating they are voting for or against him based on this.
It's wrong.

Still not as wrong as the media making it sound like a "possible" plot to kill Obama is worse than the definite plans these racist scumbags had to kill 88 innocent children just because they were black.

What on earth are you talking about? And I don't care if it influences your vote or not-- wrong is wrong. His Mom was from Kansas, his Dad was from Africa. That's pretty much half black in anyone's book.

As for the plot, planning to kill ANYONE based on their race is wrong. I don't care if it's kids, a Presidential candidate, or Santa Claus. It's horrifically wrong. But the plot was all of a piece: kill children AND Obama. I didn't see any report claiming one had more importance than the other.

Wikipedia:

Obama Sr. was born on the shores of Lake Victoria in Kendu Bay, Rachuonyo and raised in Nyang’oma Kogelo, Alego, Siaya, Kenya. He was the son of Hussein Onyango Obama (c. 1895–1979) by his second wife, Akumu Habiba.[1] His family are members of the Luo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luo_(Kenya_and_Tanzania)) ethnic group. Obama Sr. was raised as a Muslim, but later became an atheist.[6] He grew up in Nyang’oma Kogelo, and was married at the age of eighteen in a tribal ceremony to Kezia, with whom he had four children.

I don't subscribe to hysteria and I'm not one prone to just relating things I heard from an unreliable source.
If I don't have some proof that the person or writer or whatnot that I am quoting is accurate, I take it as a 'possibly true' source.

Senator Obama himself is the source for the Arab remarks. He apparently filled out applications and listed himself as Arab American.
I'm not one to care about that kind of thing... personally, I think the race card, the gender card... it's all been played far too much this election.
I don't have the stuff sitting in front of me right now. I didn't come here to have a political debate.
Easy enough to research stuff if you're interested. I'm more interested in the facts about platform...

The fact that he intends to re-institute the Federal Inheritance Tax... raise the capital gains tax... cut defense spending... these are the kinds of things I look at. I don't personally care if he's 1/6th green and 1/3rd purple... I refuse to have my focus taken off the actual issues. I couldn't care less if his best friend is a terrorist, a pedophile or a scientologist who jumps on couches... talk to me about how his Presidency is going to affect me.

So everything else is semantics.

Out of curiosity, because I have not seen any updates on the case... have these two whackjobs in TN been charged and arraigned yet?

You said directly: "well, for the record, he IS 1/8th"

Then you say the above, and yet you can't produce even a scrap of evidence that that statement is truthful? "For the record" indicates that there is somewhere an actual record of that being factual, and therefore can be summoned up to reinforce your statement.

Forgive me as I honestly cannot remember exactly where/when I heard this but it was a newscast during which I heard that he actually puts himself down as African American and is proud of his black heritage. (This was early on after he announced his candidacy.) I don't currently have a source to back that up but I'm interested in knowing if anyone else heard something similar?

Stating for the record that he is 1/8 black tells me that it DOES matter to you. You felt the need to bring it up and now you want to turn the focus completely away from what you said. It matters a great deal to me a candidates best friend is a known terrorist. I don't expect it to matter to anyone else, but choosing those friends says something about your own moral character.

And let me just point something out, there are a lot of very intelligent people here. If you don't want to get into a political debate, don't post in political threads. You will be called on your facts whether you are new or a long time poster. It's not personal, it IS about discussion, so just think about what you are posting. Thanks!

Oh and lookie lookie:

There are lots of folks who are raised Muslim but who are not Arabic even though it is encouraged for all Muslims to learn Arabic so they can read the Koran in the language it was written in and the language of the Prophet Mohammad. There are also plenty of Christian Arabs.

Arabic countries in Africa are in the northern parts of Africa. Like Egypt, where my business partner Ayman is from. Or Libya. Of course, there are people who are from southern Egypt who are identified as black (Nubian) rather than Arab. There are also black Africans who are Muslim.

North Africans are more Mediterranean in coloring and culture. South Africans, being closer to the equator, are darker in coloring and have a more tribal culture.

You seem to be confusing culture, language, "race", religion and geography.

OK, since you all WANT a political debate, and are eminently well informed...

1. Name ONE Bill that has Obama's name on it... one bill he's passed... one thing that gives him even a SHRED of experience to lean on. Name just one bill he's written that has bettered this nation. Just one. I won't hold my breath.

2. Explain just how raising taxes during an economic slowdown is going to be good for the nation. I'd recommend you completely avoid the Federal Inheritance Tax that he intends to reinstate because I can have a FIELD day on how economically unsound that decision is. I'd also avoid the topic of the Capital Gains tax hike he wants to institute because that's another place that I can cite example after example of how that will unfairly penalize people by levying a tax on money that has already been taxed. You know what? You might want to just skip this question because there IS no sound economic grounds for raising taxes during an economic slowdown... anyone on here from Michigan can attest to that.

3. How about we move on to this one... explain to me (and this ought to be good) how the "I won't raise taxes on anyone making less than $250K" has dropped to 200K, then 150K and most recently to 100K? Joe Biden, just last week, set the number at 100K. Enlighten me on how a family making 100K is WEALTHY?

4. FACT: The top 10% of wage earners pay 70% of the taxes in America
FACT: The bottom 40% pay NO taxes.
Please explain to me how Obama is going to "cut taxes for 95% of Americans" when about half of those people don't pay any? You can't explain this, because the numbers just don't add up... just like a lot of Obama's numbers and 'facts'.

5. OK, I can beat up his sham of an economic policy all day... so let's move on to the energy crisis... and a statement that he made.
"We only have about 3% of the oil and use 25% of the oil so we can't drill our way out of this"
What? Is he STUPID? Think about this for a moment... we have 3% of the oil ON EARTH. We use 25% of the oil BEING USED. Apples and oranges. We have enough oil to last a couple of centuries here in America. This means he either doesn't understand that his statement is ridiculous or he said it to mislead the American people. Idiot or liar... which one is it?

6. Let's talk about foreign policy. He claims he'll pull out of Iraq... and redeploy our troops to Afghanistan. According to him, this will save us all that money we're spending in Iraq. OK, folks... common sense... he's not bringing them HOME, he's just redeploying them elsewhere so the money we are spending in Iraq now will be spent in Afghanistan. No savings. Just tax hikes. These statements are from HIS speeches, they're not suppositions... but I guess no one was paying attention.

7. Speaking of foreign policy... Iran endorsed Obama. Shouldn't it make you wonder when one of our enemies supports a candidate? Guess that doesn't occur to everyone.

8. Oh, wait... Obama was right about Iraq, right? Uh, no. Not exactly. See, he took the endorsement of Colin Powell... the very man who testified that Iraq had WMDs and that military intervention was necessary. So I guess Obama was wrong? One of them was wrong.
Considering we SOLD WMDs to Iraq (look it up) when they were fighting Iran in the 1980s, we knew they had them. Obama was wrong... and Powell was wrong to endorse him, so I guess they were both wrong, just at different times.

9. Well, since the man has no experience, no clue about economics or foreign policy... let's look at his personal life and get a feel for who the man is, ok? He attends a hatred-filled church listening to anti-American rhetoric for over 20 years and claims he never heard a word of it. He sits on a board with an unrepentant terrorist and claims it's ok because he was only 8 when this man did these things (didn't know there was a statute of limitations on terrorism). He and his wife are disrespectful of our flag, our anthem... and yet... he is a well-spoken black man, so that's supposed to make it all ok?
No. I don't care what colour someone is... and as for being a brilliant orator, so was Adolf Hitler. Doesn't make him a great leader. He has fooled a lot of you... congratulations!

10. Barack Obama was not elected to be the nominee by the Democratic Party. Hillary Clinton was. Howard Dean wanted Obama and disqualified FL and MI, two key states... from the primaries to make sure he got nominated.
Sounds more like something that would happen in the USSR than the USA... and yet... here we are.
And so many of you helped it to happen!

You wanted empassioned?
You've got it... and tons of facts.
It's a moot issue.
Still, these are FACTS and they were ignored by so many people who voted for an unqualified, radically liberal opportunist who was appointed to the nomination. Believe me, I'll take great pleasure in saying "I told you so" as he shows his true colours...
granting amnesty to illegals
expanding the entitlement programs
growing the government
taxing the middle class

these are his true colours... the only 'colour' I care about.

So how *does* McCain's cock taste?

Those "facts" were mostly from his stump speeches or crappy commercials ffs. The funny part is, you never actually quoted any cites for your "facts" or talked about your original "fact" about the Arab comment or refuted any of my points.

Huzzah for President Obama!

That is weak
VERY weak
Only a weak debater goes to insults... that is debate team 101
those are FACTS
every one of them can be easily backed up

I don't need to cite websites... and if I DID cite the internet as a source, it damned well wouldn't be wikipedia.

Don't worry, within a year, I'll be the one laughing and saying "Man, did I ever tell you so"

and for the record, I am not a McCain supporter.
I just know an unqualified numbnut when I see one... and Obama fits that bill to a tee.

Oh, Pathos... you disappoint me
You should know me better by now.
I don't want to change your minds. FACTS are FACTS
There is no opinion in fact... only fact.
If you want to drink the Kool Aid and support the charlatan... this is America
Have at it.

Just don't bitch when the defecation hits the oscillation

If you want to drink the Kool Aid and support the charlatan... this is America
Have at it.

Just don't bitch when the defecation hits the oscillation

I had a quiet little celebration here, a happy little "Yay!". Most everyone is sleeping right now, and Obama isn't necessarily a favorite here. At least now the McCain sign can be taken down...

We did watch Indecision '08, tho. That was a hoot!

OK - I've just got to get this out of my system. Count - you've made yourself a target for my (and undoubtedly others') ire.

Right or wrong - Obama can't do any worse than W has done for the last eight years. I find it amazing how you can spew all these assumptions about what Obama will do to sully the United States and turn it into a socialist state.

You forget - color DOES matter. Barack Obama is unlike most of us - he was born of mixed racial heritage, lived abroad in a third-world country as a child, attended a private high school in Hawaii paid for by his WHITE grandparents who didn't teach him to be a color - they raised him to be the best man he could be. He is in the unique position to see things from a number of viewpoints whereas the rest of us are not.

How DARE you assume what it in his head and heart or what he has lived in his 47 years. Yes, on THAT account I will agree that color doesn't matter.

But you can't profess to be unaffected by his race and then argue ad nauseum about the percentage of blackness in his ancestry. You can't profess to be colorblind and only concerned with what heinous, hideous things he will do to this country AND cite the speculations and inaccuracies of others chapter and verse and presume to tell the rest of us what fools we be.

Well, aren't you special?! Go wallow in your own fear and loathing and wild speculation. Perhaps you might even experience a small portion of the dispair and trepidation many of us felt when Bush was elected and what fools we felt his supports were. And how appalled we have been as we watched many of our civil rights eroded or destroyed. Or worse - how we watched as the republican party of old became a bunch of pandering, fear-mongering, religious zealots. Now, eight years later -even his old cronies and former political allies have been trying to escape their affiliations with the great fool.

Face it - people are tired of the same old bullshit where the rich get rich and the rest of us foot the bill. Let the ignorant, narrow-minded folks believe all the fear-mongering. The rest of us are going to revel in our victory.
