Has anyone used Dip It (TM) to cover their boning? I was at the hardware store with my hubby the other day, saw the stuff (it is used to cover the handles of tools to prevent slippage) and thought it would work great on boning because it is supposed to be washable....

Any thoughts?

My sister and I both use it for our bodices - do dip it several times, make sure it dries thoroughly between dips, and before you dip, curve the ends of the boning by trimming or grinding - less dangerous if they do poke thru and less likely to do so.

I have also used it, and it's awesome!

What types of boning have you used it on? (interested in trying it myself). I'd love to hear your input.

I've used it on regular steel boning that my sister buys by the yard - I'd have to ask her from where - and also on file folder hangers that have been cut to size. You know - the metal srtips that always fall out of one side of the file folder? They make great boning. And they're usually "free" - you've already paid for the folders...

I got my boning at Home Depot! The metal strapping that is used to bundle wood is great. The only thing is that you have to be very careful when cuttiing it, as it can be very sharp. Just use clippers to round the edges, and cover the ends with Dip It.

I also use "dip It" and I get my boning from Home Depot. It is easy and cheep! They throw the metal strapping away, just tell them you would like to take it off there hands and they will give it to you. You can get it 1/2 inch and wider if you want. My hubby has metal clippers I use to cut it. I have found that if you have a sharp end, use a piece of sand paper to smooth it out. When I dip one side of it I use a bit of tape on the other to hang it from a cabinet door over my counter in the kitchen so it if drips, it drips on news paper. I leave it hanging until it drys, dip the other side but move the tape to the other end and let it hang until it is dry.
Works great :bananada:
