I tried to shuffle my schedule to make a chat, but it’s just not gonna happen. Which is probably for the best since my brain-to-hand co-ordination is so lousy I can never make myself clear in real-time chats.

Speaking of being clear I’ve spent the past couple of days agonizing on how I can clarify my stance when it comes to Team Wench. I’m the kind of person that wants everybody to get along. I know that’s an impossible task, but still I try…

First some history as I remember it… (Now please realize these are my *perceptions* as an outsider.) I first became aware of the nickname “Team Wench” soon after Jamie announced that she was doing the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk & asked if anybody else wanted to do it too. There were a small handful of folks who ended up training/walking together & TW was the name they called themselves. This was a case of individuals raising money in their own names for a specific charity. There was no connection to the IWG other than they were all members & the announcement of what was happening on the MD-Wench yahoo list.

Soon after that, other individuals mentioned on the list other walks/marathons that they were participating in… again asking if anybody wanted to join/help/sponsor.

Then came the “Save The Boobies Feast”… but I thought that still was individuals raising money in their own names, no official IWG connection. (Actually it looks to me like there is more connections with TW being part of the Privateers Ships than Local 42. )

I believe the TW yahoogroup was created in order to keep bandwith down on the MD-Wench list when folks wanted to talk details.

But in all these cases these were actions taken by individuals on their own accounts. Never did the *group as a whole* make any decisions.

Okay away from my perceptions on to fact.

The IWG was started as a social group to help Lars with his private business. The IWG is owned by him & is a money-making venture. From what I know of business (which I will admit isn’t much) any monies made/raised in the name of the IWG must go through him. Which is why on the Local level we don’t sell pins, LBBs, etc or charge for our “services.” It’s all a matter of legal accountability.

One of the big things with the Wenches Guild is you do not *have* to do anything. You don’t have to wench, you don’t have to walk, you don’t have to S&B, you don’t have to belong to the yahoogroup, heck you don’t even have to have 2 X chromosomes.

The flip side is everybody in the group can use the group as support in any endeavors. In this wonderful group we can ask for help with finding housing, finding a job, hosting a cookout, having a game night, going shopping, doing a road-trip, finishing a bottle of scotch, working for a charity, finding a home for kittens… all are equally important.

If at some point in time a Madame (any Madam) said, “Go put gas in my car so that four of us, not including you, can go to faire,” I’d bet you’d balk at that. So if I was told “As being a part of this Local you must participate in our charity activities,” I’d tell the Local to take a flying leap. (Don’t get me started on how I feel about the Government’s peer pressure tactics with the CFC.)

So how do I feel about Team Wench…

I firmly believe that not every Wench need participate in Team Wench. And also I believe that not everybody participating in Team Wench need be a pin owning Wench.

If “Team Wench” is used as a nickname used by individuals to signify a clique, I have no problem. I consider this to be analogous to the McArghs… a group of similarly minded folks talking together.

Individuals doing charity work in their own names is wonderful. So if Team Wench wanted to go back to their original forum, yea go Team. And the Team, like any clique or individual, can use the Local as place to ask for support.

If a group of people wish to form a non or not-for-profit that would require the opening of bank accounts, a board, taxes, forms, etc. , and wish to use the name Team Wench, I believe that this could not be a part of Local 42 & the IWG as they are organized at this point in time.

I’m trying to be fair to all parties. I think its great the some people wish to do good works, but not everybody wants to be that involved.

Again to reiterate, the IWG is a *Social Group* created for the enjoyment of like minded people.

This is Faire Folks, Have Fun!
