I hope you like this, it made me think of you all.
Reclaiming My Self
When you look in the mirror, what do you see
A jumble of pieces that don’t fit perfectly
A body that’s stretched or faded away
Once blond hair now turning grey
Do you see breasts that sag or hips to wide
fat ankles, double chin or thunder thighs
Do you analyze and ponder and think with a sigh
I wish it was smaller and then start to cry
Dear sister I beg you, please do not
There is tremendous beauty in what you’ve got
When I look in the mirror, this is what I see
Radiance and splendor and endless beauty
I don’t see a cover girl from the magazine shelf
Instead I choose to reclaim my self
My feet are cracked and calloused you see
But it is proof I am wild and free
My thighs shake with womanly fat
It shows I am no longer a child or teen for that
My stomach pooches for the whole world to see
I see it as proof of my femininity
I have curves in places the models have not
But they don’t have the softness and comfort I’ve got
My breasts sag even though I’m quite young
It can’t stop me from having intimate fun
My chins are never my favorite sight
But I’m well fed, not starving just to be slight
Pimples and blackheads cover my nose
I hardly notice wearing my favorite clothes
My swimsuit doesn’t always fit like it should
I keep my head high because I still look good
I am fluffy and curvy and could never win a race
But I am sexy and gorgeous with this smile on my face
I challenge you, dear sisters, to do what I do
Break free of your bonds and throw out the rules
Laugh at the world and to thine own self be true
And love who you are because sister, I do
