Okay ladies...I know there are plenty of seamstresses out there...due to my work schedule I dont have time to experiment and make my own bodice...as I have stated before I am a well rounded woman, so to speak, and carry most of my weight up above the hips so have what I consider weird measurements....is there any wonderful wench out there who has the skills and time to make me a bodice? Preferably at a price that wont make me swoon....also...why do pattern makers have the idea that big ladies dont like to dress up too?

Yup. There are indeed a lot of us. Take a look at our websites and see whose style suits you best, ya? It's a very personal thing, that garment that spends all faire day in close proximity to your dearest breasts. See in what direction your tastes run. It's not like we won't be here when you need us-- personally, I've been either at my computer or in the kitchen dyeing almost all day. Sigh.
Lesson for the day: when someone assures you that yeah, that fabric is all cotton, DO A SWATCH TEST BEFORE YOU BUY 20 YARDS OF IT!
Sigh.

This wasn't the fabric that you ordered from Dharma, was it?

No, I haven't ordered fabric from them yet. This was the stuff I picked up from JoMar. Thankfully, it all seems to be working out so far, after an hour of pure, grim panic in the morning. We shall see, though. Think happy thoughts for me.

HAPPY DYEING THOUGHTS!!!
I too think that a bodice is an extremely personal choise, as is a corset. As I don't trust many other people to know what is best for me, I have taken to sewing my own things. I will soon have a pic of my BRANDY NEW red wool Court dress.. and I didn't think it could be done!
Seriously, I would take alot of time and alot of talking to different trusted souls before entrusting them to make something for me.

Aye I agree I would prefer to make my own...was going to experiment with a pattern I managed to locate...(cant wait to find good pattern grrr) but may have to get one as a pinch hitter until I find the pattern and get the time to play..:;sigh:: My sweet Rogue just offered this morning to buy the bodice for me until I can get the right pattern...also good luck on the dying of the material...hope it comes out the way you want it to..and I hope there are pics of the new red wool court dress in the near future..would love to see it!

Nevada,
I am in the same boat as you.. I would love to make my own and just haven't found the time or pattern that would do well on me. Being of the bustier type I need real boning and I have hips so I need a high waist. Arghhh!!!! it is hard to find good stuff for that fit...
So, I completely understand. I am haping that i can make my own stuff for this year but it looks like once again I won't be able to. I will have to buy one buy maybe I can get on made for me... I will hav eto look around.

Has anyone ever tried the duct tape/t-shirt bodice pattern? I've been thinking about it, get one that's form fit to me, but not sure if it's as easy as it sounds...

We were going to try it a while ago up here, but we never quite got round to it. My advice? Have a party and everyone can do it together. Most things are more fun that way, aren't they?
In theory it's easy. However, you need to get someone to tape you up who isn't just going to walk around you with a roll of duct tape. My first pattern, while usable, wasn't very good. I had to make a muslin mockup, and re-shape it a bit, because the person who taped me up let the tape get bunchy and put more tape in some areas than others and such. My more recent ones have been better done, because the person taping me up was careful about using strips of tape instead of just going around and around... Especially because going around and around in one direction gives you a slightly lopsided bodice. ;)
If someone's good at taping you up and is careful, then the rest is cake. Really. Just make sure whoever tapes you up is someone you know and trust. :)

 And be sure you have several rolls of duct tape on hand...

(who will never forget the sight of Cyd half-taped at the top of the stairs, crying out for more tape, and having to send my Merc out hunting for some...)

Oh, definitely both.
Just make sure you have a lot of chocolate and mead on hand, first. The latter to be consumed by the tapee before and during, and by the taper AFTER ONLY.
Oh, the hijinx that could ensue....

Oh, the mental picture this conjures up... *cut to fog machine daydream sequence...*
Wenches A,B, and C go to Home Depot, and approach Pubescent Teenage Clerk. "We need all the duct tape you've got, STAT!!!" P.T.C. chuckles and with voice cracking, asks, "Yep, you all afraid of biological warfare attacks over here?" Wenches A,B, & C give a disgusted look... Wench A says, "Heck, no... it's you that should be afraid of being corrupted by all the random bodice sightings you may experience as a result of selling us this duct tape!"
Yeah, yeah... it's a slow day here. ;)

Ok...first of all...where the heck are y'all located...I have an amazing seamstress that I adore. The gal is actually working toward her PhD in textiles, teaches classes at UWM, and is one of the most amzing people to ever sit down in front of a sewing machine. I will go to her for all my garb needs that I cannot do myself and am willing to pay for. She duct tape fitted me. Interesting to say the least...I sacrificed of of my ex boyfriend's teeshirts for it (WHEE!) It is now my new favorite method of patternology. The bodice fits like heaven...it's a side lacer and I can get into it flawlessly all by myself. Her prices are really reasonable too. She is in the middle of relocation in the next few weeks and then busy with wedding clothes until June but if you head to her website you can find her info there...
