I have some Faire W.I.T virgins, who will be attending faire this year, :bananada: I can outfit of them with garb but wanted them to have tankards...I found some clear plastic ones at Target really cheap (and good size)...I was thinking about using decopage and torn brown paper bags, to simulate "leather/suede" but Im not sure, it that is toxic??? Any ideas how to cover them, make them look like tankards and not be lethal or make my good friends sick form tasting glue :rotfl:

I would think that if you decoupaged the outside...there shouldn't be any issue. I think that they make a nontoxic version that can be used. I used it to do a plate...but I did it on the backside of the dish and food never touches the side that has the decoupage on it.
You might also try taking leather craft rope and wrapping it around them, then decoupage that to hold it in place...but that might take longer to do.
Good luck.

I was thinking about this all day... I found the tankards at my local target toooo..
How about some stain repellant fabric (like upholstry) sewn around the "body" of the tankard?
Or you could do the same thing with leather...
Just my 2 pence...

...and maybe wrap the handle with leather thongs??? the lip is rather large and since clear maybe just put fabric up to the lip area???
thanks guys this helps

You could matte them in brown paint, and then "wood grain" them. Then seal it.

;) Try the sealer you get in the craft paint section of the store...Gah I've lost my mind on what it is. But it's food safe. :)
It's in the same size bottles as the craft paints, but on the opposite side of them.
Heck! I'll put it out today, and give you the name! :P
I also thought of taking paint rolling it in sand, then painting over it, or putting sand in the paint. Give it a grainy rocky look. :)
Nifty! Now I've got some fun stuff!
