I have been wearing contacts since age 13 and now for the past 3 years, for some reason, my eyes are not tolerating them anymore. I have tried various brands and shapes etc.

I'm thinking of just forgetting contacts and talking to the Doc about Lasik. Any experience would be appreciated - what kinds of questions should I ask, What should I look for in a Doctor, Any positive/negative experiences anyone wants to share would be helpful before I jump into this.

Thanks,
S.

First of all, welcome to the madness. I saw your other posts and work got in the way of my saying hello. Pardon my tardiness for my welcome. I had Lasik on my birthday, my one and only good present from the sperm donor...now the ex. I was blind as a bat before. I couldn't even see the numbers on the alarm so I could never hit the snooze button in case I lost track of how many times I hit it. The day after my surgery, I was amazed that the numbers were so big afterall. The only probs I had was a halo around headlights after dark for about 6 months, my eyes are more sensitive to sunlight but I just buy really good sunglasses, and I find they dry out just like when I wore contact, but drops help that and my vision clears up after, and now, 5 years later, I could use reading glasses...but the drug store ones work fine for threading needles when I sew my garb. I would recommend it to anyone.

I second her opinion. I had it 4 years back, at first i had very small halos but only around traffice lights. I had 20/400 in each eye with astigmatism. I now have 20/20 in each eye.

After surgery there was no pain. though I really couldnt focus that well until say 30 hours afterwards.

PM me with any other ?? if ya need/want too.

Thanks ladies - I think I'll make an appointment. The cost scares me, but my insurance at work will pay 20% - that's better than nothing, and I've heard that many Drs. have payment plans.

I can't tell you how much better I feel about myself and my looks when I'm not wearing these darn specticles (and I even think I wear a fairly attractive style). I know it shoudn't matter - but somehow it does.

Also, thanks for the warm welcomes - I'm excited to be here! Working on an avatar.

My mother got me "new eyes" as a college grad present. The halo effect went away and I just wear sunglasses all the time. I have big pupils anyway my doc said, so I would be wearing shades anyway. Treat it like major surgery and stay away from bright lights and dust for the first few days. No sunglasses at faire nearly kills me. I am sooooo glad I had the surgery. Though I suspect my mother paid for the procedure with the hope that it would get me married. No such effect yet. lol
