I've been on it for about a year and a half off and on. For the first 6 months I was on and I went to the gym regularly and I lost 30 pounds. Then I went to grad school and lost 10 pounds and then gained back 8 of it. I went back on starting this week and I've lost 3 pounds. All in all I love it. I can eat whatever I want just in moderation which is the key for me. If I know I can't have something I'll crave it. Well... off to the gym. Good luck and if you want to chat PM or IM me. =0)

I was on the points system last year before the baby was born and lost almost 80 pounds...witht the pregnancy I gained almost all of it back :( I am planning on joining again after this weekend...free registration!

I know it can be done, I just have to remind myself to just take it one day/meal at a time and not try to look so far ahead.

I'm doing Weight Watchers. I lost 20 lbs. and had lots of success, then, stopped - who knows why - now back on it.

I like that I can choose the foods to eat.

yeah, i think the best thing about it is the fact that i can eat whatever... and i'm sticking to the point thing (not that new thing they started this week - they talked about it in the meeting today and it was just confusing).

so here's my question - what do you eat at faire? i shudder to think how many points the soup in a bread bowl is worth at MIRF - and a girl cannot subside on pickles and turkey legs alone (i've been takinf stuff with me, but the basket just gets too heavy after a while).

ps - i lost another 2 pounds last week! YAY!

Staying on points at faire takes some creative hunting...avoid the turkey leg unless splitting it with 3 or 4 other folks...27 points per leg average! The sausage on a stick? 40 points...try to aim for the chicken on a flatbread, eliminayte the bread and have the sauce on the side and you're down to less than 10 points. Have a veggie wrap from the Greek booth for 7 points or the fruit and veg platter for 5 points (ask for extra veggies and cut the amount of cheese in half if it is just a snack..keep the cheese as a dairy/protien serving if this is a true meal).
The fruit smoothies look harmless, but ask them NOT to add sugar water, it adds excess points that you can use somewhere else.

Stay away from the soup in a bread bowl, its is well over 20 points if you consume the whole thing. The steak on a stake is a wise choice, especially if you can add some raw veggies with it and down it with a bottle of water. The steak has around 10 points depending on the size...remember 6 oz isan adequate serving of beef and the stake can be a little more than 2 servings.

Some good ideas..share what you buy, its cheaper in the pocket and on the points. Bring what you can, refill that water bottle often at the fountains, and spend some time just enjoying the sights and smells and delay eating until you are just starting to get hungry...don't wait until that hunger pain starts or you'll eat anything as long as you can get it fast!

...I'm starting back on Thursday and looking forward tot he new core program.

RocketRN our NY local madame is on WW. She has lost so much!! She says it's about 55 lbs.

She looks awesome!!!

As for soup in the bread bowls......I get the soup in a regular bowl. I don't eat the bread anyway and this way I get a little more soup. No idea what the points on it is though.

I too am on Weight Watchers and have lost a total of 38lbs so far with 16 more to go to my goal weight. I truly feel that it really teaches you how to eat properly. :D

I agree, I didn't quite understand the new plan when I read about it. I'm very happy with the points plan, and with my new gym i'm back on track. I have about 40 more pounds to go (I'm half way there) but I'm feeling good again!

WOW ya'll are so inspiring. I had no idea that the bread bowl is so high in points. But, to be honest, I walk so much that I have not been too concerned about points on those days. Maybe I should reconsider!

I think I'll try the beans and rice bowl with no bread next time.
Lots of water and easy on the beer!

I've been doing weight watchers but lately I've been slipping. I really need to get back on track and exercise again. I hurt my back and totally slid off the program. So far I've lost 65 pounds and need about 30 more to vanish. I'm happy with the flex program but not too sure about the whole core thing. Faire is especially tough on me with finding things I can eat because I am a vegetarian. You can only eat so many cheese and cracker plates and rice and vegies before you get bored. Fortunately its been so hot I haven't wanted to eat during the day so I've just been eating a sensible breakfast and dinner. Probably not what my meeting leader would like to hear, but what can ya do?

I too am on the Points system. . .I read all the info on the core plan, but decided, if it ain't broke. . .(I've lost 40 lbs) so sticking to my points and little indulgences that make it all worth it:) I'm more than halfway there too (hope to lose 25 more lbs).

Things I'm already considering to eat at trf:
soups minus breadbowl (great idea btw)
griled chicken on a stick
steak on a stick
veggie wrap
fruit fruit fruit fruit fruit
pickles (lol)

also planning on bringing a lot of my own stuff.

Yep, another WW here. I've been on the points program since January, and I've lost about 45 lbs with another 15 to go. I've hit a little plateau lately, but I've just joined a gym so I'm hoping that jump-starts me again. I love the points program and I'm going to stick with it, although some of the members in our group who've gone on the core plan have had quite a bit of success with it. Faire is tough (I miss my cider!!!), but MDRF has a few food items that are pretty good -- fresh fruit, veggie and turkey wraps, chicken on a stake, and OYSTERS!!!! Sharing is definitely a good plan, because portion sizes are usually so huge.

Great jobs, my sister wenches -- you all are an inspiration!

I'm a vegetarian too and up until last year the bread bowl (beans and rice) at TRF, was sans meat (at least I thought it was, I could have been mistaken). And then I ordered it last year and there were big chunks of meat in with the beans. Very dissapointing as it makes food even more limited.

But, we make due. Not getting enough to eat has never been a problem for me! So, I figure I'll always be able to find something.

Well, take care fellow point counters!

I've never been on it myself, but I have to say I LOVE what it's done for my mom. She's in her 60's and lost over 60 pounds over the last 2 years. She's now a lifetime member, and has really changed her eating habits for life. She looks amazing...I haven't seen her fit and slender since I was about 8 (I'm 35 now). A total inspiration to me on how determination and a little outside support can work wonders! She's much healthier, and has so much more energy, and is actually ENJOYING her life now. I'm so proud of her!

A big kudos to all of you doing the strong work!
Cheers,

My hubby and I both just joined this past Thursday. Wow, it's changed so much since I was in the program 15 years ago! No more counting servings of veggies and proteins and fats and all. We're trying the core system first...but may go over to the points system after our next weigh-in.

Anyone have any good recipe sites to share? That's my biggest problem...need a grocery list!

Not so much on the recipes, but Debbie's Weight Loss Zone (http://www.dwlz.com) has a ton of restaurants listed with point values of menu items. It's a good resource!
