I'm doing little things to work myself up for the bigger things.
I used to drink a honkin' Pepsi every day at work. Now I have a regular-size one once in a blue moon, and usually drink water.
Went grocery shopping, and made sure to buy lots of fruits, veggies, and frozen stuff I can eat without guilt-- and it's stuff I like, too.
There's a part of the path where I walk the Clue-monster that I now jog. It's about 3 minutes, but it's more than I used to do, and the aim is to last a little longer on the jogging from week to week without feeling like I'm gonna yarf when I stop.
One of my bigger goals is to start going back to Curves. I haven't been in months, but I refuse to cancel my membership. The same for Weight Watchers-- I joined online, but wandered away from the fold.
I can do better. I just wish I would.

Remember when you first started WW and you and I talked about it all the time? I think we need to do that again. Kind of motivate eachother again. I just started up with it again too, I was just ready. It is a huge commitment. But you did it before, in fact you and Betty are the reasons I did so well. I'd be more than happy to be the reason that you do well. Love you. See you this weekend. We'll talk about it.

Ysobelle - did you join the WenchFood thing that Emalia set up? It's helped me a bit - sort of remotivating. A friend here at work and I were talking about this - how we know what we should be doing, but just aren't doing it. We chalked it up to human nature and the opposition to change & then promised each other to nicely bully each other into motivation if we're slacking.

Hehe, I still dont' know how to do the wenchfood thing. I just don't get how to use the live journal so I gave up.

It sure is difficult. I also haven't been to curves in forever and I am also on WW online.
What's a wench to do?
Ysobelle - I think you are onto someting about 1 change at a time. Tomorrow is my weigh in. So, we'll see how it goes. I wonder what one thing I could change that would make a big difference? I'll have to think about that one.

So as of last night, I'm jogging all the way from the starting point back to my own front door. I had to stop once for a second to berate my dog both nights, but otherwise, straight on through, chugging and puffing away. I've only lost two pounds, but hey, it's something.
I'm still feeling it in my lungs, though, and I got in half an hour ago. There's a lot of crud in there I'll have to exorcise through exercise. And I don't even smoke!

Yay Ysobelle! That's the way to do it.
My Merc (he of the nummy green tights) started running January 1 this year--he made it once around the street that day. Now he's regularly running 5Ks in the area, and is working towards an 8 minute mile. Occasionally he's run for longer, just because he isn't tired yet.
Watch how your clothes fit. You're building muscle (and strengthening your bones), so the weight may take a while to slough off, because you're building the muscles first.

Oh, I certainly do feel it in my calves, but just for a bit. They've always been the most muscular part of me.
I just want to lose some around my middle, especially. And sitting on my end too much isn't helping!

That's great progress, Ysobelle! :D I know what you mean about the lungs - I think that's the part of me that goes South first and takes the longest to get back in shape (and I don't smoke, either - but both my parents smoked like chimneys while we were growing up - I think that has something to do with it). It is like your legs could keep going, but your lungs are begging for mercy! With the continued running, your middle should reduce - get the cardiovascular going & help burn the fat!

I've always wanted to train myself to run...seems like everyone I know who runs is fit.
I started Phase 1 of the South Beach diet again Monday to lose the 5 pounds that I gained back during my vacation. Anyone want to try the South Beach diet with me? I have already lost 20 pounds from it. It's really easy and you don't have to exercise unless you want to. I need a beach buddy. ;)

I actually went to the gym twice today. I have been doing awful with the eating thing so I like to think if I work out like a mad woman I'll still lose weight. I did 20 mins weight circuit and 60 mins on the elliptical machine. I burned 650 calories on the elliptical. WOOT!!! So that's my success for the day.

I keep meaning to read up on South Beach! I may take you up on that, Lucy. Lemme think about it a bit?
Just got back from my mini-run. Seems it's about five minutes long. I despise it, but I keep going. Gah. Hack, wheeze! I also bought myself a Brita this evening so I can stop shelling out for bottled water at work.
Onwards and upwards! Or is that downwards?

Can anyone give me an idea about the cost of a Curves membership (just so I know what I may be facing before I'm standing there with my jaw hanging!)

Mine's about $40 a month, I think, though I seem to remember it was $150 to sign up for the year. Each Curves is independently owned, so they'll vary. Go ask 'em! Call first if you want to!

Each Curves is individually owned, but they often run nationwide membership specials. There should be one coming up at the end of January. This one is if you donate a bag of nonperishable food items, you skip the membership fee and pay a lower monthly fee if you sign up for a year. Mine was about $31.
It's absolutely best to get a partner. My bestest friend and I worked out early mornings last winter and spring. We lost about 10 lbs without much real change in our eating. But she started rehearsals for Mame, then we had to rehearse our MentalPause show, then do the show at faire ... by then we were pooped and we haven't been back. I now have a job I must begin at 8 a.m. (opposed to 8:30 previously) and there's just not time to fit it all in anymore. After work the place is packed.
But I realized I'd lost the most belly fat by using a workout ball (65cm). I've had one for awhile, but when I moved (in August ... sheesh) I deflated it for easier moving. Last night I bought a pump so I can inflate it again. I also got some 3 lb. dumbbells I can do a series of arm exercises I learned from our local Curves owner. The ball also came with a number of exercises that work different muscles - all using the ball. So I'm going to try that for awhile.
I'm also back to the Dr. Phil eating plan. Nothing goes into my mouth unless it has nutritional value - no empty calories - lower carb and fat intake. But it's just a good, sensible eating plan. I'd become a carb-consuming insane woman from the beginning of Sept. until the first of the year. Time to quit!!!

Speaking of gyms, I joined a new gym in August. I was becoming unhappy with Curves. It was no longer challenging me. So if anyone else feels that way look for a FitZone for Women in your area. They have a circuit like curves but they use actual weights and they also have cardio machines.

Did you find you got too strong for their resistance equipment or something? I've not joined just yet..probably going up there tomorrow to check it out. I have a LOT of weight to lose so I'm pretty sure it will be challenging for quite some time.
