View Full Version : Where are the classic holiday movies on TV this year?
I haven't seen any of the classics ANYWHERE on TV this season. I have every cable channel under the sun with the package I have and yet.... nada.
Where is Miracle on 34th Street, White Christmas, Holiday Inn, Christmas in Connecticut to name a few?
I know NBC ran "It's a Wonderful Life" Turkey Weekend, but that's the only classic I've even seen advertised. :irked:
Did someone buy the rights to air them and that's that? I am just so disappointed with the Holiday fare this year.
Only things I've seen were the new Kelsea Grammar musical version of A Christmas Carol, Charlie Brown's Christmas and Heaven help me......the Nick and Jessica Variety Special. (Which was AWFUL). :yuck:
Used to be you could find something every night of the week that was holiday based and you could catch the classics several diferent times in one season. It was a huge part of my holidays and getting into the spirit.
Anyone else feel his way or have I just been missing these movies?

Well ABC Family was showing all the Old Childerns holiday specials on their 24 days of Christmas but those show air at 6pm as for all the others Ive got 'em on DVD and watch them every year! I got tired of waiting for TV to air them or missing them altogether.

I know NBC bought "IT's A Wonderful Life".
White Christmas was on Sunday, but I don't remember what channel I cuaght it on.
I've been disappointed too. I miss being able to flip through the channels at this time of the year and finding at least 3 or 4 different options..
I'm glad I bought Scrooged and Patrick Stewart in A Christmas Carol.

Blame Ted Turner. He has the rights to most of them and says who and when they air.

I've got most of them on video including the claymation Rudolph-like ones.
Unfortunately....I left them all at my folks when I moved 2 months ago and didn't think about how I wouldn't have them to watch for the holidays. I want to get them all on DVD eventually. Hiowever, some aren't on DVD, like Christmas in Connecticut. The OLD one. Not the Arnold one. I put myself of the Amazon list to get an e-mail if it is ever released on DVD.

You know you're probably right and I think TMC (Turner Classic Movies) is one of the few channels my package dioesn't give me. I have to pay extra for it. Freaking Turner.
TMC pisses me off, it totally ripped of AMC (American Movie Classics). Used to be you could see all the old clasics on it and then Turner bought the damn MGM vault and now AMC is reduced to playing things like Vacation and the Breakfast club as classics. Yeah, right. Classics in their own ways, but NOT true classics. *sigh*

I know that the claymation one have run
Of course Lifetime is running all their chick flick christmas movies. . . . but you are right the other Classics like either version of Mircle on 34th street haven't run. . . .
Do you know why they changed then end of Mircle on 34th Street from the letters to the Dollar bill??? . . . . . see below and enlarge
size]when the movie was remade the Postal Service itself had become a corporation - not a government owned operation - thus when modernized it would not have won the case to point out that the post office believes in Santa. That is why they had to switch to the dollar bill and "In God We Trust" and change the argument.[/size]

I started collecting all of my favorites on DVD because I could never find them on TV. And when I saw "It's a Wonderful Life" a few years ago and they had edited it, I about blew a gasket. Have not watched that one on tv since. We are starting to get a huge collection of holiday favorites.

Hadn't realized there was such slim pickins.
I had Netflix send me "Scrooge" this week. I need a musical with a nice bent sense of humor. "Scrooged" is something I want to get on DVD...LOVE Carol Kane and the toaster!
A local movie house is screening "It's a Wonderful Life" tonight, but I don't think I'll be able to go. It's nice to know they are screening it, though.
I miss having a fireplace. Better than tv, it was...

That was only in the "modern" remake...thank goodness thet the original is still untouched. (Like Greedo shooting first...never should have happened)

They showed the Patrick Stewart version of A Christmas Carol on TNT last week, and Cartoon Network's been sporadically showing the Grinch, but I miss Frosty & Rudolf.
Fortunately, my sweetie's parents have the old black & white Frosty, and we watch it while we cook Christmas dinner. ^_^
