okay..yes they should be allowed to form..but not receive public funding to form as they are perpetuating discrimination based on religious doctrine....if the University isnt allowed to receive public money if they discriminate then neither should and organization wanting to form on campus....

Just another group trying to force their views of "God" on others by using the Government’s money...

Just to play devils advocate, and maybe I missed reading this in the article...

How are they forcing their views of God on anyone? They are forming a club, which you join voluntarily, and they are asking for support from the government, like any other club does. Maybe I missed something in the article?

answer x4
It's not that their forming a voluntary club it that they want Gov. Money to support a group based on discrimination. I wonder can the KKK get money from the Gov now too?

exactly...if they want to form a christian support group...kudos...every faith or lifestyle has that option...but to receive govt. funding when they have stated you have to be straight and christian to be a part of their group is wrong...our govt and the money we pay in taxes to support it is not supposed to used for discriminatory groups...they have access to private funding just like any other group....

Ack! *breaks computer* sorry about the stupid multiple posts. Computer has been on the fritz lately, and dad has been working on it to get it fixed. I can't wait til break is over so I can use my own computer again.

I see what you mean, but at the same time, there are groups that are formed specifically for minorities. Those are discriminatory, I am not allowed to join them because I am not a minority, but they still receive federal funding.

Form whatever groups you like, but with your OWN money. Torques me off when they want to use government money, money that would be better spent elsewhere.

actually unless it is stated in their charter that you cannot join because you are not of their ethnicity..you can join...I am a member of an African American Forum ....a friend is a member of a Native American forum even though she doesnt have drop of indian blood in her...she joined because she is interested in the culture...check the minority charters and see if they specifically state you have to be of their color/ethnicity to join....in the case presented here you actually have to sign a statement agreeing to be straight and christian...that is blatant discrimination.

sh*******t...my old Sorority at my Alma Mater can no longer receive funding or coverage from the Universtity because they ARE a sorority and 'descriminate' (against men).

Though where we state that no men allowed is beyond me. If you really wanna joing that badly then pledge! sheesh.

If even half the stories I've heard about sororoty initiations are true, then I'll pledge! :cheer:
