I think this will help stop the mayhem in the "Hangout" and perhaps un-ruffle the feathers. (No, I was *not* calling anyone an old biddy!)
I like the new forums though, I can only *hope* that it will calm down, and we can get back to play!

BonBon I wub you... but it's
Clang, clang, clang went the trolley
Ding, ding, ding went the bell....
Sing, sing, sing went my heart-strings
Then I started to fall, yes I fell
When I was a kid, I thought they fell off the trolley... lol

Morning Ladies! Glad to see so many lovelies about this early. Well OK...11:30 am isn't exactly early but it is when you were up as late as me!
So a miserable dark rainy day here in north Jersey. Perfect for hitting the couch with a book. I'm hoping to finish the book I'm reading about the Trojan war then I'll go and rent the movie that just came out (even though I heard it wasn't that good!).
Hope everyone is well and has a nice afternoon! 8)

It's a sunny, snowy day here in Michigan - just sent hubby and wee one off to go sleding.
We just watched Troy last night. It was OK, worth the $2 rental fee but not much more.
On the funny side of that, on Tuesday when the video/DVD hit the stores, 2 local DJ's were talking about when they went to see it in the theater. One said he heard a kid (about 14ish) say "Yea, the sword fighting was cool, but what was the big thing about shooting Brad Pitt in the back of the leg?" For thoes who have not seen the movie yet, Pitt played Achilles.

Does it have all the gods and goddesses in it? I was thinking it might try and be a bit more historical and cut out all the magic. I think that's what they did with King Arthur. I'll check it out anyway. Always enjoy big overblown epics!

No gods or goddesses. It's told from strictly a human point of view.
As for the big overblow epic, I think that's what they went for, but it just didn't feel like it. Know what I mean? As in, when you know you are watching something realllly good. You just know it's going to be great. Well, for me at least, Troy did't pull that off.

I enjoyed the movie for what it was. Just another movie. I wasn't expecting the movie to be Historically/Mythologically acurate. No magic in the movie. What I saw it as a "historical like" movie. What would have happend & how Achilles became known as a "God" after his death of course.
If you like to see some stereotypes & some gratuitous flesh, it's a good movie to see.

Chantico is a new chocolate drink. think chocolate sludge ~L~ it's not milk chocolate hot cocoa, it's THICK, I mean motor oil thick and it's meant to sip, not take in big swallows. It's good, go give one a try. They were just rolled out today. I think I also read on http://www.starbucks.com that they were doing free samples on this coming Thursday from 4-5 PM.
and I'm hopelessly addicted to their Eggnog Lattes and Peppermint Mochas... I really *should* cut down, but I'm weak... ~whine~

also too, if you like 'exotic' hot chocolates, try www.vosgeschocolate.com (I think that's the address, I'll have to double check it)
and look under Haut chocolat. I've got the Aztec and adore it. It's dark chocolate mixed with chili and cinnamon. you brew it up with heavy cream and whole milk. WAY fattening and rich, but you only do a little at a time.

Hail, All!
Hmmm.. So *this* is the new play-pen, eh? Looks good! (bounces up and down to test the flooring) Nice ground for swashbuckling... (Feels walls for asbestos) And flameproof too! How thoughtful!
Let the bantering begin!
Oh- and by the way? I spent some time today with Impact Productions, Walking the *new* site of this year's Endless Mountains Medieval Fetival '05
Gonna be an interesting year!
hmmm...... I was going to re-invoke the poetry or Shakespeare quotations now that we've moved into a fresh location.. but for some reason *this* seems a bit more appropriate...
You Are The Only Song
by Harry Chapin
I've sung it all tonight
Almost every story that I know
And now when they turn out the spotlights
I'm not sure where I'm s'posed to go
And I'm so hoarse I can't hit the high notes
It's just a whisper when I'm low
But when you sing from the inside
You hope that something shows
And that it why
Yes you are the only song, the only song I need
You're my laughter and you're my lonely song
You're the harvest and you're the seed
And you're my first and my final song
For you own me indeed
Oh yes, oh yes,
Yes, after all is said and done
You're the one song that I need
I've sung my songs to silence
To empty clubs and crowded bars
I've sung my songs to standing room
Even sung 'em to the stars
But the faces they fade together
And the applause it's gone so fast
And the story of every darkened stage
Is that the glory just does not last
And that is why
Yes after all is said and done
You're the one song that I need
All my life's a circle...

hmmm... I wish I could take more credit.. but I *cannot*. Credit where credit is due: Thanks Harry!
The song is just a much more eloquent way of saying what I'm feeling. (and if you want to really *feel* it- it's off Harry's "Legends of the Lost and Found" album.. on *vinyl* -unreleased on CD- dammit!) I was priveledged enough to hear him perform it several times, back in the days...
..and if I ever manage to shake this sore throat, and anyone manages to track me down at EMMF, I'll happily murmur it into thy ears.... (but remember- I'll be in constant motion- both trying to be entertaining to the patrons.. and trying to avoid the "pointy footwear of certain doom" of a certain Madam who has sworn revenge for a rose-tag episode)
and in honor of that rose-tag enjoyable viscious circle.. and because I'm about to call it a night... *and* because it's appropriate to add it to the last song.. I think I'll close this the same way Harry closed every concert... G'night all!

Circle
by Harry Chapin
All my life's a circle;
Sunrise and sundown;
Moon rolls thru the nighttime;
Till the daybreak comes around.
All my life's a circle;
But I can't tell you why;
Season's spinning round again;
The years keep rollin' by.
It seems like I've been here before;
I can't remember when;
But I have this funny feeling;
That we'll all be together again.
No straight lines make up my life;
And all my roads have bends;
There's no clear-cut beginnings;
And so far no dead-ends.
I found you a thousand times;
I guess you done the same;
But then we lose each other;
It's like a children's game;
As I find you here again;
A thought runs through my mind;
Our love is like a circle;
Let's go 'round one more time.

Careful kids, there are hall moniters about......
ELDORADO
by Edgar Allan Poe
written in 1849
Gaily bedight,
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of Eldorado.
But he grew old-
This knight so bold-
And o'er his heart a shadow
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like Eldorado.
And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow-
"Shadow," said he,
"Where can it be-
This land of Eldorado?"
"Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,"
The shade replied-
"If you seek for Eldorado!"
-THE END-

Ah! Invoked yet again... :wink:
Well... since the bantering is at a bit of a standstill (I'm guessing everyone is resting up for the next bout....) -I hope instead you don't mind a bit of, hmmm... "Rogueish" Shakespeare- 'to wit: my favorite audition piece to perform live. From Othello, it's a monologue by Iago as he is plotting Othello's downfall- Iago must be one of the greatest characters ever written, 'specially if you like playing the dark ones....
IAGO. And what's he then that says I play the villain?
When this advice is free I give and honest,
Probal to thinking, and indeed the course
To win the Moor again? For 'tis most easy
The inclining Desdemona to subdue
In any honest suit. She's framed as fruitful
As the free elements. And then for her
To win the Moor, were't to renounce his baptism,
All seals and symbols of redeemed sin,
His soul is so enfetter'd to her love,
That she may make, unmake, do what she list,
Even as her appetite shall play the god
With his weak function. How am I then a villain
To counsel Cassio to this parallel course,
Directly to his good? Divinity of hell!
When devils will the blackest sins put on,
They do suggest at first with heavenly shows,
As I do now. For whiles this honest fool
Plies Desdemona to repair his fortune,
And she for him pleads strongly to the Moor,
I'll pour this pestilence into his ear,
That she repeals him for her body's lust;
And by how much she strives to do him good,
She shall undo her credit with the Moor.
So will I turn her virtue into pitch,
And out of her own goodness make the net
That shall enmesh them all.
Damn- I need to play that role someday...
...and having snuck in, extemporialized, verbossified and grinned... the rogue silently snuck back into the shadows...

Well... since the bantering is at a bit of a standstill (I'm guessing everyone is resting up for the next bout....)
Speaking of which, here's *my* fave char, Viola from Twelfth Night. Not that I', any good to pull off the Bard onstage, but if I could, this is the character I'd want to play.
I left no ring with her: what means this lady?
Fortune forbid my outside have not charm'd her!
She made good view of me; indeed, so much,
That sure methought her eyes had lost her tongue,
For she did speak in starts distractedly.
She loves me, sure; the cunning of her passion
Invites me in this churlish messenger.
None of my lord's ring! why, he sent her none.
I am the man: if it be so, as 'tis,
Poor lady, she were better love a dream.
Disguise, I see, thou art a wickedness,
Wherein the pregnant enemy does much.
How easy is it for the proper-false
In women's waxen hearts to set their forms!
Alas, our frailty is the cause, not we!
For such as we are made of, such we be.
How will this fadge? my master loves her dearly;
And I, poor monster, fond as much on him;
And she, mistaken, seems to dote on me.
What will become of this? As I am man,
My state is desperate for my master's love;
As I am woman,--now alas the day!--
What thriftless sighs shall poor Olivia breathe!
O time! thou must untangle this, not I;
It is too hard a knot for me to untie!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Raises Hand~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just watched "Troy" (mini-rogue gets out swords and helmets to watch movies like this, so he can play along - LOL).
OK, my opinions:
1. The book was better.
2. Didn't see any out-of-period steel, at least.
3. Cool earrings on the ladies (I have a fetish).
4. Brad Pitt is WAY too pretty.
5. Helen might have launched 50 ships, but 1,000? Please.
6. No gods/goddesses or magic.
Per Mags, it's worth the rental, but not up to the level of Gladiator, LOTR, Braveheart, etc. Although half the cast of all of those movies showed up in Troy. (SPOILER) The old Scottish guy in Braveheart who gets it in the gut and dies, also gets it in the gut in Troy. It must be listed as a specialty on his resume.
Just checking, anyone else know the punch line to: "Knock, knock. Who's there? Gladiator? . . .. . . . . . ."
allow me to share a lil something i wrote, long ago, when dreaming of the one I had not met yet. A bit mushy, but straight to the point.
To feel your lips, to touch your face,
to be in the warmth of your embrace.
Feeling your sweet warm breath upon my skin
and knowing true happiness from deep within.
Dreams of holding you run through my head
as I lay restlessly sleeping in bed.
Thinking of your smile, so sweet and sincere
your cute way of blushing, makes me wish you were here.
A rarest rose to be sure, a diamond amidst the sands
and I long to hold you with these, my two hands.
To caress your hair, to feel your kiss,
such simple things would bring such sweet bliss.
The way you move your hand to your face
to catch a stray lock of hair, makes my heart race.
Never before have I wanted someone so near,
so patiently I'm waiting, waiting for you here.
