Hey Ladies, I help staff at a game called Ashirion.. below is information

Ashirion: The Broken Sphere is a High Fantasy, Original Theme gameworld that combines a storytelling element with a very low level of code. Set on a world that was once whole, the Broken Sphere is now a broken world held together by powerful magic and some say - hope. Ashirion is the result of 6 years of work online and 23-4 years of work offline, from Wolf. Ashirion is a dark universe of danger and adventure, where the forces of light strive to battle the ever growing menace of a triad of despicable foes. The Shadoen, merciless and ruthless servants of the Shadow Lord. The Void, instruments of a mad God, and the Risen - Undead that think, and reason, footsoldiers in the endless twisted games these beings play.

If you would like to know more, then come by ashirion.co.uk:1969 where the staff (+staff) are only too happy to answer questions and help you to become familiar with the game.

I would suggest downloading SImpleMu at http://simplemu.onlineroleplay.com/ or use telnet, I find the first the easiest to use.

Greetings,

I've taken a quick look at the page and I must say that I am interested. Living away from the city does put a dent in role-playing opportunities and the big online games like Everquest are not Mac freindly at all. I've had some poor experiences with other MUD's due to the fact that I was unsure what to do and the exisiting players had no interest in being helpful.

What makes this game different from the rest?

Silverwind - I would recommend runescape to you, but I'm afraid (to my knowledge) its not particularly mac-friendly either. It is a web-based game that was written in java - so it normally loads just fine, but it relies on right-clicking for a lot of things. :)

Well Ash (As I call it) is great with newbies :) This was the first and TBH one of the few RPG's I've played. It is toally based from the owners mind, so no knowledge of say LOTR's or anything is needed.
It does take a while (a day or so) to create your charator and get it approved. Yes we have to approve your char. There is a whole area for you to choose your specials, sort of like feats in D&D.

The people who own it have been RP'ing, he has written books and manuals for games, she is an artist for Mongoose.

The reason I love it, the people are so helpful and nice. If you don't know anythign at all about MU*'s they are willing to walk you through, even simple things like how to get around. No one is going to laugh at you for not knowing. Plus it give me a way to get those voices in my head out.

I'd say stop in, since it is all text based you shouldn't have a problem with it.

Just a quick additional note about text-based RPGS:

I am an admin on Wheel of Time MUD (www.wotmud.org) which is the only MUD endorsed via license from Robert Jordan. It's a full player-killing (pk) MUD with heavy roleplay for clanned characters required. If you're a fan of the Wheel of Time series (except the one book that sucked, with it all taking place in one day for 800 pages...) then come give us a look.

Though -- ack! -- I should add that we're currently in a crash loop, we've got the coders working on it, and we're currently in free-for-all deathmatch mode. Come see us in a few days after I know we're stable. Silly coders...

Aha! I tried that Wheel of Time Mudd. I just couldn't get into it though, even though it looked very cool. I just didn't have time to add another game. This made this Avhi sad :(

I do take solace in my Wheel of Time Message board rpg though, so its all good!

I do want to mention Simutronics http://www.play.net. I've played Gemstone and Alliance of Heroes (formerly Hercules and Xena: Alliance of Heroes...I was even a programmer) for-evah!

I heartily recommend Gemstone, though. The world created is breathtaking and the GameMasters are fantastically talented and twisted. There's no real PVP unless its in a sanctioned area, but there's enough evil doing that doesn't require PVP, and its just a great system overall. Try it! If you do, I'm Avhiennda Siennada, the Grey Master Bard. Or Meyene Ardrigh, the White Cleric. :)

We have a bit of fighting but no one does unless they set themself OK for it. So you can battle but no SUPER gaming, or posing things on other players. Check out the web site and you can see, it has a long history with lots of twists.

Hi Ladies!

I just saw this topic and thought I'd throw a Text-based RPG that I play into the mix. It's called Threshold, and the website is www.threshold-rpg.com Roleplaying is a MUST, and there is PKing (playerkilling) allowed. It's not your typical hack-n-slash game. I've been playing it on and off a few years, and just picked up with it "full time" over a year ago.

The only somewhat downside is that it's a kind of a pay-as-you-play, though the minimum requirement is $50, which really isn't too bad considering some games have a monthly fee of $15 or so. You really don't -have- to pay more than that, though you have the option too, and of course, you're given a bunch of rewards for every dollar you spend.

If you like the game and start playing it regularly, send me a PM and I'll let you know who my two characters are. :)
