I didn't ever see that we particularly had a music thread going, so I guess this is the place for it!

I am noticing that I am among one of the few power-metal heads in my area. What's worse is that there seem to be very few power-metal bands. Lots of screaming death and black metal, but...meh...it ain't the same.

What's your favorite metal band? Or, hell, I'll even take what's your favorite singer/band/music style. I'm passionate about my music and the acquisition of new and interesting stuff!

Other loves: U2, Stevie Ray Vaughn, anything from the 80's, especially Def Leppard
Can listen to: anything but rap or really twangy country!!

Has anyone heard the new slipknot?
What do you think of it?

ABSOLUTE fave of all time: Metallica

Emerging fave: Godsmack

Just saw them both in concert. They made even this 40-something lady rock!

Canadian Fave: Moist and Tragically Hip

Another emerging fave: Evanescence

And all the "old" 80's bands: Bon Jovi, Ozzy, Guns 'n Roses, ZZ Top. Yeah, I know, no comments.

Funky, dirty, disgusting and absolutely hilarious fave: John "Dr. Dirty" Valby

Slipknot wasn't really an "ohmigodgottahaveit" of mine...but I heard some of their more recent stuff and I really, really like it.
Of course, I like the softer stuff where there isn't an overabundance of screaming.
I'll be honest, most of their songs might not be like that, but I think that's what my friends played for me when they decided "You'll really like this!!"

Are there any Type O Negative fans??

*edit* I love Godsmack and Ozzy, also grow nostalgic over Metallica myself...

It's cool to see people with similar, yet diverse tastes!

I was just curious on the slipknot thing because it took my by surprise and as I have seen them live, I was curious how they would pull a calm song of and there was a HOLY SH*T moment of oh my gods they can actually sing and not scream, which I like both.

I was raised listening to Metallica, guns and Roses, Ozzy and the like which I greatly enjoy listening to along with Godsmack, God head, Korn, and Marilyn Manson.

Bronya, you would love my office. Everyone there quotes all the Southern rock bands all the time! My boss takes off the day that the plane crashed, in memoriam.

And you're right, how could we all forget Spinal Tap?

I'm not a huge metal fan.
I can take it in limited doses. My son is a big death metal fan. Old man's Child, Opeth
Goat whore. not quite my style.
Most of what I listen too is from the 70's Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Genesis, the Dead,
Allman Bros.
Has anyone heard of the band Rennaissance? Definately my favorite. Of course they haven't been together since the early 80's.
Otherwise I listen to what might be called "faire" music. Loreena McKennitt, Kate Price
lot of celtic stuff and CDs I picked up at faire.
I also have what I call my girl music Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan,Nora Jones and Natalie Merchant.

I guess I'm bit older than many of you. But I love music so I had to get in on this .

I love many of the bands listed here already. Off the top of my head, here are some good lesser-known ones:

Deus Machina
Laibach
Corvus Corax
Luxt

Can anyone recommend some good metal with a slavic flavor? I heard something like that a while ago and crave more.

Did you get any Brother and/or Clann an Drumma?

CC rock, especially when paired with a nifty dance beat at your local Goth club. I used them as a point of reference in my novel. Woot!

Great thread... for me I go from one extreme to the other

Queen Latifah
Snoop Dog
Everclear
Beatles
Neal Young
Black Sabbath
Procal Harem
Led Zep
John Lennon & George Harrison

I used to love Metallicca but can't listen to them any more since someone so very dear to me danced to them at their wedding and has crossed to the other side. Now when I listen to them I just cry…. Not a good thing for heavy metal
