Well ladies, I hate to ask, but I'm in need of some good thoughts and energy. Tomorrow I go to see the orthopedist about my ankle, and am terrified of what he will say. You see, 2 weeks ago Saturday, an escelator tried to eat my foot. I was going down from the food court in the mall I work at, and the stupid thing grabbed my shoe. I stumbled off of the escelator and I thought sprained my ankle. Well over the last 2 weeks, the pain and ability to put pressure on the foot has increased. I am very afraid that I either tore a mucle, tendon, or ligiment, or that I ruptured the tendon. The tear is relatively easy to deal with, a cast and crutches or wheel chair most likely, but the ruptured tendon is worse. Its a brace for a Looooooooong time, or surgery to my knowledge. My mother has a ruptured tendon, that's how I know the treatment. So if any of ya'll could send some good vibes or thoughts my way, I would greatly appreciate it.

Well, I just got back from the doc, I have to wait to have the MRI, evil insurance companies. But he says that It looks like I tore it at the base of my achillies tendon, where another tendon joins into the achillies. I can't work or drive for probably at least 3 weeks, not including once we have the accurate diagnosis. I'm in a air cast style boot up to my knee, and though i have only had it on for a few hours, it's already driving me wacky. So far it looks bad though. I have an appointment with a lawyer tomorrow to discuss this to see if I should persue a lawsuit against the mall and or escelator company. Thank you all for the good thoughts and energies, and I'll keep y'all appraised of the situation. Hopefully I'll have a definitive diagnosis soon.

The knee boots suck, but they really do a good job. I also used crutches or a cane to help keep the weight off the leg. I know how waiting for the MRI can be insanity. Hold in there.

Well, I finally got the difinitive diagnosis. I have a partial tear of the Achillies Tendon with adema, so I have another few weeks in the boot, and a follow up with the doctor in two weeks. hopefully I'll be able to drive again after that appt. Still not sure if this will cause permanent problems, but I'm on the way to getting better. Thank you all for your good thoughts and energies.

A warning about physical therepy. It will hurt. I was limping out of PT after the first session after a major ankle sprain. I'm not trying to scare you, its not nearly as bad as the tear, its more the muscles will be worn out after taking it easy for so long. Good luck.

I gotta vent about this. I can't start my Physical therapy because the federal government dropped me unexpectedly from my mothers insurance. No warning, no note, nada. I had recieved my insurance card, so we thought I was good for another year. Now, I have to try to find an insurance company to take me on with 2 pre-existing conditions, (Ankle and asthma) smoking, and being overweight. Not fun. So basically, I get to try the whole home physical therapy which leaves me in tears at the end, and the added stress of trying to find reasonably priced insurance. Thanks for listening to my rant ladies, and wish me luck.

apparently they can. All because I turned 22. The funny thing is the gov is saying that the insurance co did it and the insurance co is saying the gov did it. That's the only funny thing about this is that NEITHER wants to take the responsibility for dropping me. I just want someone to take responsibility. We can't afford the continuation of coverage because the premium would jump from $90 something a biweekly payperiod to well over $300 a biweekly pay period. Anyone know any good insurance companies that aren't too expensive?

Insurance costs are one of the most expensive items in our budget here too...its insane. I hope that you'll be able to continue your PT so you'll get better soon. And, although in no way do I tell everyone to go lawyer shopping you may want to have one contact the mall regarding those expenses....
Just be thankful that the escalator was not in the same store you are employed in....workers comp fiery rings are no joy to jump through AND you'd never have recourse via a lawyer (you can't sue your employer in most states).

Depending on your annual income there are insurance plans that aren't too bad payment wise. My sister works part time and there is an insurance program in the state of NY that provides basic care to those with a low annual income. Maybe a google search might turn something up?

And I also agree, you need to have the mall cover all your expenses, and then some.... most lawyers in personal injury don't take a fee unless they get a settlement; mine took 30%, but hey it was worth it not to have to deal with all the crap. Also, most have a free consultation appointment.

I do have an attorney, that's one of the first things we did when we found out how bad the injury was. I don't do frivolus law suites, but if they had just offered to cover my medical bills and replace the $20-$25 dollar shoes that got ruined and were a gift from a co-worker, I would have been happy. Instead they tried to turn everything back on me saying I wasn't paying attention. I'm TERRIFIED of escelators, have been for years, and so I'm paying complete attention to where the platforms are cause I want off of those things as quickly and safely as possible. Also, escelators are supposed to be made to not be able to grab clothing, and where my shoe was grabbed, none of us, me, mom, attorney man, can figure out HOW it grabbed the shoe. My bosses though have been great through this entire ordeal, and I think almost wished that this had happened while I was on the clock, because I've missed a little more then a month without pay. I think he kinda feels bad about that, but he seems happy that I get to go back to work soon. We'll see how my tendon likes it though next weekend. I'll google that kind of insurance plan Cusefan, thank you. And thank you all for just listening or technically reading and giving me your thoughts and opinions, it means a lot to me especially concidering that y'all only know me through the computer.

Went to work this weekend, can someone please remove the knife from the back of my leg? I was also able to start physical therapy thanks to my lawyer. I don't like physical therapy very much, up side my physical therapist is good looking, down side, IT HURTS!!!!!! I swear I wanted to deck him after I finished with the treatment, you were very right about the pain Gremco. I honestly think that the manipulation and massage after the treatment hurt more then the exercises, I also think that I may have finger shaped bruises from trying to get rid of the knots. Rosetta, thank you for the thoughts and prayers and you're welcome for the welcome!
