Now Georgia Republicans are flexing their muscles in preparation for exercising more control over the reproductive lives of Georgia women. A bill has been introduced that would protect pharmacists who refuse to fill prescriptions for emergency contraceptive drugs. Some druggists who have strong anti-abortion sentiments are refusing to fill doctors prescriptions for the "morning after" pill. In so doing they place themselves and their moral principals between the doctors and their patients. Republican freshman Senator Jim Whitehead has introduced a bill that would prevent an employer from firing or disciplining a pharmacist who refuses to fill these prescriptions. That happened to an Eckerd pharmacist last year in Texas.

Did you know that in some cases these "I don't care what your doctor says, you're not getting this drug" pharmacists refuse to hand the prescription back to the customer. That way they prevent the customer from going somewhere else to get it filled. No word yet as to how Jim Whitehead, the self-appointed keeper of the womb is handling this one.

What amazes me is someone without a womb is making decisions about someone elses....even those with one dictating what someone does with theirs is ridiculous

Here's an Idea...when/if this happens the client should phone 911 right then and there in the Pharmacy and report a mugging... the Pharmacist is takeing something that belongs to someone elas and refusing to return it...sounds like theft to me.

Wow, Eric, that's actually a FABULOUS idea!

You are accomplishing several things by handleing as Eric suggests.
1: You are attempting to *peacefully* resolve the situation. No hysterics, no screaming, just a phone call to the cops.
2: Media have access to the cop radio frequencies. They will jump all over this and garner attention to the issue for you.
3: The government (be it local/state/or federal) pays the wages of the cops who respond. You will be sending a message to the legistature in a way faster than just showing up with petitions and letters.

I feel sorry for all of you ladies down there, and wish you the best of luck in your fight.

What a great idea. Talking about resolving something peacefully and having it protested all at the same time. Boy now that would be sending out a message

This just irritates the bejeezus out of me. If the pharmacist on duty doesn't want to fill the Rx because of their moral leanings, fine - but they shouldn't be able to retain a legally obtained script. I'm at work and just doing a read-by, so I need to go see the boortz article later to get the full gist. By the by, I love your idea Eric!
