Japanese Siblings Live With Dead Parent

TOKYO - Police on Tuesday questioned three siblings after it was discovered they had been living with the decomposed corpse of their father for nearly a decade, an official said.

Police found the body of Kyujiro Kanaoka lying on a futon bed at the family's home in Itami city in Hyogo prefecture in western Japan, said a prefectural police spokesman, who declined to be identified.
Kanaoka's three elderly children, all in their 70s or older, told police they thought their father was still alive but that one of them recently had consulted a relative about the possibility that he might be dead, the spokesman said.

Police were investigating the cause of Kanaoka's death. Judging from the condition of his decomposed body, Kanaoka may have died as long as 10 years ago, the spokesman said.

Had he been alive, the man would be 107 years old. Hyogo prefecture had registered Kanaoka as its oldest living resident, public broadcaster NHK said.

I guess they couldn't differentiate where the smell was coming from.

Perhaps they were trying to get him included in Oldest Person In the World category?? :unamused:

The fact that he didn't eat or drink for 10 years never tipped them off? If I stay in one place for too long I have to get up to walk around, get something to drink, eat, go to the facilities, etc...
Maybe they...... No never mind. I'll shut up now.

But I will agree.. Eeeewwwww :blech: :yuck: :faint:

Most definitely high on the ewwww-factor. However, these 'children' were all in their 70's or older. Perhaps they all had some form of dementia themselves? I dunno, maybe I'm grasping at straws here, but really......there's gotta be an explanation... one would hope.

Actually, I've heard of this kind of thing happening before. Usually, it involves someone who has some kind of pension, Social Security, or whatever that will be cut off at death, so whoever was also depending on that source of income didn't want it known when the pensioner or whatever died so they could keep collecting. Admitting that one knew the deceased was dead would be self incriminating to fraud.
