View Full Version : What to do in winter for a Renn fix!?!

Okay, I just have to ask this... What does everyone do during the "off season" to get your Ren faire fix? I, myself, throw Renaissance themed masqurade parties all winter long. I've had two this past fall and I'm having another this Friday (it's an open house party, so if anyone is in need of getting the garb out of storage, you're invited!) Friends love getting dressed up in garb for no reason in particular, and I LOVE throwing parties!!! Besides that, it's fun to see my mother in law in wench garb. She's thinking about joining the IWG, too! So, anyway, what does everyone else do??

The best fix for faire withdrawal is to get together with faire/guild friends as much as possible, especially for garbed events.
:grouphug:
It is already January and I have not had to put my garb away because I find I need it too often.
The SCA is hosting Birka the first weekend in February in Manchester, NH, so I'll be pulling garb out again. (That reminds me . . . I really need a cotehardie or a kirtle or something.)
We had tried to have a wench gather tonight at the Roxy in Boston, but that fell through. We are looking to reschedule that and maybe do something else like a brunch in February or March before the 2003 season starts.
Hope to see you there!

Ooooh, I'd love to get together with some guild members in the area! I really don't know anyone since I've been sort of out of the faire scene for the past two years  , but I'm dying to finally meet some people before the next faire! I've kind of made it a priority to talk to some local wenches "in real life" so I can get back into the whole Renaissance circle again.

I want to meet some people up here, too! I moved to New York from Texas last spring and I'm really way too shy for my own good.
At Faires I wind up going alone and not having as much fun. :(
I would be glad to contribute cloth and food to a party or stich n' bitch.

Wow! From Texas to New York; that's quite a move! But then again, I freaked when i moved to the other side of town! (yep, I'm a townie!)
Yeah, it's so much better going to faires with a bunch of people. And I totally understand the shy thing. I'm painfully shy sometimes. Definately stay in touch for the upcoming faire season, though! It'd be great to have a fellow wench to roam the faires with!

I get my Ren-fix by looking at these message boards, ren-related websites, and watching rennie movies. When I'm not stuck at work that is!
I also am trying to plan my 2003 faire schedule (but I can't seem to get my fiance to help plan where we wanna try to go! )
The only chance since faire that I've had to wear my garb was halloween.
Is it April yet?

Oh, what would we do without our Ren sites and movies, and such!?! :) I've watched waaay too many Ren, medieval, fantasy-ish movies this winter already! Let's see, there's Shakespeare in Love, Robin Hood Prince of Theives, Lord of the Rings, Ever After, Keepers of the Kingdom, and on and on...
My husband and I are planning out the faires we want to visit this year, too. Our big issue is finding baby sitters! Faires can be hard to enjoy when you've got two little ones in towe.
Last year we took our three year old to the Robin Hood faire at Hammond castle. (the baby stayed with Grammy!) She got car sick and threw up just when we got her out of the car! :blech: So, I had my lovely new kirtle soaked with vomit and she was in tears. :tantrum: We had a very smelly hour and a half drive home. Oh well. Both kids will be staying with Grammy this year!

Have to agree with what was said already, Hang with your friends from faire when you can though is the best thing. Garb events are few and far between where I'm at (or maybe I'm just not looking in the right places). Other than that, listening to faire music helps get me and some of my friends our "fix" so to speak. Empty Hats, The Crimson Pirates, The Pirates Royale...all great IMHO :) Just a suggestion from a helpful Merc ;)

Thanks MacRican, you just remimded me, I also sit here and listen to RenRadio. :tunes:
But another addition to my temporary ren-fix is all the medieval items I've been downloading for the Sims, I have taken over a whole neighborhood and am in the process of building nothing but Castles, Manors, and cottages, and for the community lots I am building a tavern, a blacksmith, and not sure what else. :lumpy: probably a market.
