Star Wars to become new TV series

Ewan McGregor returns as Obi Wan Kenobi in Revenge of the Sith
Two Star Wars TV series will follow the latest movie in the hit film franchise, director George Lucas has said.
Animated show Clone Wars, currently broadcast as three-minute episodes, will become "a 3D animated" series of 30-minute shows, he said.

It would be followed by a live-action series featuring characters from the six Star Wars movies, he added.

"We're probably not going to start that for about a year," he told a Star Wars convention in Indianapolis.

'Step away'

The latest Star Wars film, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, is released in most countries on 19 May.

The Clone Wars "micro-series" has had 25 three-minute episodes on Cartoon Network, taking the story up to Revenge of the Sith.

Mr Lucas told the Celebration III convention the live action TV series would be similar to Raiders of the Lost Ark spin-off The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

"Like on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, we want to write all the stories for the entire first season all at once," he said.

Star Wars creator George Lucas said the sixth film would be the last
"I'm going to get it started, and hire the show runners and all of that, then I'll probably step away."

He said the live action series would feature stories taking place between movie episodes three and four - Revenge of the Sith and the original 1977 Star Wars movie.

Lucas said he "never considered" extending the Stars Wars story beyond episode six - Return of the Jedi.

"To be very honest with you, I never ever thought of anything that happened beyond episode six," he said.

"It's the Darth Vader story. It starts with him being a young boy and it ends with him dying. I never ever really considered ever taking that particular story further."

Mr Lucas said the live action series would feature some existing Star Wars characters - but would not elaborate.

"There's a lot of issues that are connected, but you won't necessarily see a lot of the people that are connected," he said.

Empire favourite

No broadcast dates for either series have been announced.

More than 30,000 fans attended the convention. Away from Star Wars, Mr Lucas added a fourth Indiana Jones movie was "definitely in the works".

Meanwhile, The Empire Strikes Back has been named the favourite Star Wars movie in a poll of more than 40,000 readers of film magazine Empire.

Han Solo was voted the favourite hero, Chewbacca was top alien and X-wing pilot Wedge Antilles was favourite minor character.

They have been talking about another Indiana Jones movie for years. It all has to do with coordinating the schedules.............and we know how hard it is to do that in Hollywood............

I kinda remember as a child there was a very short lived Star Wars TV series. . . .Chewbaca lived in a tree house and there was a Mrs. Chewy
And there was a Christmas special.

Young Indiana Jones was actually a not-bad series as well. I watched every episode. I always considered Indy to be my all-time favorite fictional character.

Not too many people realize but Harrison Ford made an appearance on the show. The episode started off with Harrison as Indy in 1950. It was in Wyoming and he and a Native American friend of his were being chased by a bunch of crooks trying to get some valuble NA relic. Eventually they get holed up in a cabin and Indy sees a little saxophone and says something like "This reminds me of a time when..." Then it flashes back to young Indy and proceeds to tell the story of when he did a brief stint as a jazz musician in Paris in the 20's. Then at the end it goes back to Harrison and shows him take out the baddies and walk off with his buddy. Great stuff. I miss that show. :(

There were both the Ewoks and Chewbacas family. Harrison Ford was in the episode.

I also remeber the Ewok cartoon and those annoying Ewok dolls that talked when you walked past.

As a member of IndyGear.com I have to chime in on this one. Yes, Indy 4 has been in the works for years. They've had a couple scripts now, but none of them have apparently passed Lucas and/or Spielberg's approval. There are rumors Ford and Connery have agreed to do it (or are at least interested), and supposedly Kate Capshaw will be in it as Willie Scott again. Karen Allen is also rumored to be making a guest appearance. Most of this is just speculation at this point, and until there's a final, approved script, the project is not in the pipeline. Whether it'll happen or not remains to be seen. I'm of mixed feelings about it. As a huge Indiana Jones fan (to the extent of owning replicas of Marion's costumes, and wanting more from all 3 films), it'd be kind of fun to have another Indy movie. But many good things come in trilogies (Star Wars, Back to the Future, Lord of the Rings, etc.), and I think at this point, especially considering the ages of the actors/actresses, Indiana Jones should remain a trilogy. "Last Crusade" was a double meaning: the last crusade for the Holy Grail, and Indy's last big adventure. I would be perfectly content to see Indy permamently have ridden off into the sunset at the end of "Crusade."

PS--BTW, that was a soprano sax Indy had. I'm a music major (clarinet) too. Wow, I'm nerd...

OMG!! The Christmas special.....A group of my freinds and I spent 2 years passing a VHS copy of that awful Christmas special around to each other. Nobody wanted it because it was so bad. It ended up being the gift that made everyone who got it groan. One thing though, none of us had the heart to destroy it.

Remember the Star Wars Christmas album, "Christmas in the Stars"? The best song was "What Do You Get a Wookiee for Christmas (When He Already Owns a Comb)." Hilarious!! My fiance's got the old LP around here somewhere....

In terms of Indy 4, Lucas just confirmed a few days ago that there finally is a script that works for him (and Ford as well--he wouldn't agree to do any of the previous script offerings, due to the quality, or lack thereof, of the scripts.) He said filming will probably start next year, and is otherwise pretty mum on any details at this point.

I did see the clone wars animated series it was cool.

I have always liked Indiana Jones too but I did miss The Young Indiana Jones Series I was in the military at the time and I was always somewhere where a TV wasnt it seemed. I think a 4th movie would be great except for a coupla problems. Both Connery and Ford are past thier prime for action. Considering Raiders was based in 1939 temple of Doom was based in 1937 and Crusade was what I always guessed to be pre Pearl Harbor. Now it has been what 15 or 16 years later that would throw them into the mid 1950's who are the bad guys gonna be now cant be the Nazi's so it has to be the Chinese the Russians or the French in Indo China just curious who they gonna be running from now? Cant wait to see what they have planned.

Now if they wanted to change the charaters around Sean Bean or Ewan McGregor would be a good young connery with a few tons of makeup and who would they get to play Indy?? They could most anything these days.

I couldn't see Connery being involved. I think he's kinda' pissed off at Hollywood at the moment anyway. You're right though...the setting would be tough. They'd have to allow for at LEAST a decade to have passed. The Russians would make a good obvious enemy. Who knows. In the hands of a good writer...the skies the limit! 8)
