Greetings everyone,
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Maddie. Is it possible to be a wench and be a virgin? I very much feel like one at the moment I'm afraid. The truth is, I suppose we all have to start somewhere so let me begin.
I have only officially been to a few renne faires. I went to Tuxedo last year and had a wonderful time and I always knew that I wanted to go in costume, but never got around to dressing the part. I met a couple of wonderful people who were heavily involved in parts of producing the Stockwood Faire and knew that along with my leather, business clothes, and casual clothing my closet was about to get more crowded with Rennwear :D. Not such a bad thing I suppose.
Of course I went to the Stockwood faire, rain and all. I met a couple of wonderful people, but my lack of knowledge led me to be somewhat shy and reserved, something that I really am not. I met John Broadfoot and it was he who suggest that I join this forum. I am not yet an "official" wench, but will be soon joining the IWG. Thus this is why I am hear.
I have been reading the many posts and I am looking forward to meeting many of you. I don't as yet have a "wenchie" name. Those that are closest to me call me Maddiesl*t in the most loving of ways, but given that little children might be about I don't think it makes the best wench name. Perhaps a few of you might tell me how you got your names and even perhaps makes some suggestions for a name. Or maybe I should wait and be dubbed a name at some point in time. I'm open to suggestions.
The next faire that I know of is the NJ Renaissance Kingdom Faire in So. Orange, NJ. I actually don't live too far from there, so I am sure I will be attending a few of the weekends. I have a small apartment, but if you don't mind sleeping on the sofa or on the areobed in the living room or heck, even sharing floorspace in the dining room, and you would like to save some money and drop in here and stay at my place I would love to have you stay. I'm single, 42 and fun. Boy, does that sound like an ad for a date? I do have 2 cats, one who is VERY friendly and one who is just friendly, so if you are allergic to felines this may not be the best option for you.
I have read the rules about the wench walks and am just curious how one goes about learning some of the songs that are required to be sung. I'm not shy at all about singing as I have sung in scores of weddings and have done many a solo.
I saw a few of you at Stockwood and this time I actually hope to work off the shy thing to say hello.
I'm sure I will have more questions but in the meantime, go gently into your day.

Peace and good will,
Maddie
Newbie wench.
xoxo

Hi Maddie!

And welcome! It's too bad that we didn't meet at Stockwood, as I'm one of the shyer wenches as well. :lurking: We could have kept each other company. I'm pretty new to the guild as well, having joined at the end of Tux last September.

I'll be at NJRK most of their run (as a playtron). At this point, I only expect to be missing one day of the weekend of June 21/22 for a workshop related to Park City Renaissance Faire where I'll be performing in July. I'm easy to pick out as I have a small blue and grey soft sculpture dragon (his name is Smoke) who perches on my handbasket. Please be sure to introduce yourself! :hi:

I've yet to go on a wench walk (still too timid) :pweeease: but the lyrics to the songs are in a songbook that will arrive with your guild membership pin, certificate and handbook. NJRK does not have any IWG activities that I am aware of, but there are a some of us there, and I'll be happy to introduce you to others. :cheer:

Welcome ladies...

As for the songs for the walk, we really only use one called "Roll your leg over". It's pretty easy to learn, and we can just make you one of the later wenches to sing so you can pick up the melody. I will try to remember to bring a copy of the words with me, Otherwise someone usually remembers their book.

As to faire names, I was given mine, and it is hardly period. *s* Maddie is lovely, and you can just stick with that. Otherwise you can just see what happens. Sometimes a name can be created from the events of a faire day.

I am currently trying to find out who will be at NJ that I know and trust to get a walk organized. I don't think I will be attending. I will keep you all posted as I find out more.

if you need any contact info for management, let me know. as far as i know, i am the only 'active wench' working for NJRK, though i may be wrong. from what i've heard, walks were stopped there because someone went against management and had a walk in the middle of, and right next to a show, though i may be wrong on that too. that happened before i became an offical wench.

Crap....That's what I get for not going on a regular basis. *sigh* I don't know how to fit it in and get everything done for NYRF....

If you could pass along that contact info, that would be great. You can e-mail it to me, or PM me. Whatever works for you.

Thanks

Hi y'all...

I'm about as active as any other NJ wench who doesn't get to Tux much to participate in walks. :) And I only post here when my two pence is relavant.

That said... I do know that we got permission to have a wench walk three years ago, but because of the unfortunate occurances of the day, the walk was cancelled. We were going to sing "Roll me over, lay me down and do it again," as rumor had it that it is one of the management's favorites.

I'll be at NRJK almost every weekend, and from the last time I talked to the volunteer coordinator, I'll be helping out running games.

Less than three weeks until opening day... the sewing, the sewing.....
