I think having a pre-season meeting would be a good thing. We can use it as a Q&A session, and for people to put forth new ideas.

My suggestion for a weekend day would be Saturday, so we don't have to end it too early for people who work the next day at "OMG" o' clock.

I would also suggest meeting at a mall. I know it's noisy, but I also think it will be the only place big enough to house us all, no matter what the weather without us having to rent a place.

What do you all think??

Sounds good to me, too....I think a food court would probably be the only place big enough to hold everyone if we got a good turnout.

Since I kind of straddle two locals (9, now that I live in PA and 69, because I still consider Tux my home faire), I am willing to travel some for a local meeting.

I'm wondering if it might be worth it to have a 'North Jersey/NY' meeting *and* a 'Central/South Jersey' meeting (with Drannan probably having to have the dubious chore <g> of schlepping to both)? It might make it easier for more wenches to attend --

You know, like a 69 North and a 69 South? Jersey looks like a little state, but if we have wenches living there, it can easily take 3 hours to drive closer to NY state, especially as warm weather approaches and everyone starts heading down the shore.

Same thing for wenches who live closer to Stockwood, for example -- *they* might be the ones doing the major drive to get to a local meeting held, say, in Morris County, NJ....and might end up saying 'forget it; it's too far to go'.

Thoughts?

Two meetings isn't a bad idea, but scheduling is always an issue. Northern Central NJ is probably our best option.

Don't forget that the are people in CT too that consider themselves part of 69. We straddle 2 local also but the 24 meetings in Boston are just to far for us in the southern half of CT. Northern NJ is closer than Boston so I know many of us from here are willing to travel there.

Sounds like a reasonable idea, unless you could get somewhere in between? I vote for Morristown or better yet, Madison. There is a communtity center right across the street from me with a large gym that can be rented, though I admit I dont know about cost. Great resturants here too. But hey how about a day at the beach meeting? Summer's coming. Another consideration might to consider public transportation. You could consider having the meeting in NYC perhaps since there is an abundance of places to meet in the city and a way to get there without driving.

Oh, aren't you glad you asked?

I think in the end, just pick a place and hope for the best, or do 2 meetings as suggested prior.

Warmly,
Maddie

Me too! What she said! :cheer: Northern NJ is a lot closer from SW CT! (Though I expect to be moving to NJ sometime late summer, so then I'll be totally in 69 territory.)

Just a thought, but, how about trying to find someplace in the Mahwah area? I don't live up there anymore, so I'm not sure what's around, but that seems to be a pretty centrally located area and since a lot of us to attend NYRF stay in that area during the season, it's somewhere people are familiar with. It's pretty easy to get to with 287 and the Thruway basically right there, and North Jersy has pretty decent public transportation access.

I'm looking in Northwest Jersey (so far I'm job hunting in Warren Co.) so as to be close to friends, family and NJRK. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :P :bananada:
