Ok... Bad enough I overdid on saturday a wee bit. (I went straight to bed honestly & pretty much stayed there except for bathroom breaks.) Now I am running a fever. Already called the dr. If it doesn't go down by tomorrow or goes up more, they want to down the mountain.
Ok besides the ibuprofen, and the cool showers I have taken ,what else can I do to keep the fever from getting any higher? (The dr just told me to take the ibuprofen. Hated to tell him I was already taking 800 mg 3 times a day as an anti-inflammatory. Hate to think what the temperature would be like if I wasn't taking it. ) It is an hour drive for me and anyone that could give me a ride is either out of town or their car isn't running well enough. (I object to being stranded on Hwy 58 .) I would like to avoid driving down til later this week to get my pain meds renewed. (The town is currently without a pharmacy. Someone drove their car almost totally through it. )
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Oh Rose! I am so sorry to hear about your fever. I don't have any other suggestions except to keep doing what you are doing - maybe inbetween shower, just keep a cool rag on your wrists and head (quite possibly an old wive's tale, but it won't hurt)
Be well sweetie - and if it gets worse or stays the same, find a way to get to the doctors. Don't blow it off as too much of a hassel - OK.

I'm not going to be any help to you. My first thought was that you might have overdone it a bit....you confirmed that. See your dr. was my second thought.
When I had my surgery and had a fever the dr. said I could take aspirin and tylenol...take aspirin at 10 am...tylenol at 12.......aspirin at 2......tylenol at 4, etc.... You just alternate what you are taking every 2 hours. They don't interact.
You know fever is a bad sign...don't wait too long to see the dr.
My thoghts and prayers are with you.

be sure thatyou are getting enough water. Fever is a sign of dehydration. Good Luck and if getting eonugh water isn't the prob...don't wait to long to see your doc!!

Not to be too scary sounding, but please be careful - make sure you do go to the doc (even if it is a pain in the patootie to get there), because the big concern with the whole hysterectomy deal is infection and/or internal bleeding (which is why they don't want you picking anything up - there's LOTS of stitches and owie spots inside from the surgery that can cause trouble). How do your stitches/staples/tape look? Red, angry, any discharge? How does your abdomen feel? Any pressure or pain? In the meantime, please rest and try not to overdo it around the house - most things that need done can wait! :grouphug: Let us know how you're doing!!!

Rose - Please take care and I second the post before. It may be a pain to get to the doctor but do it. Fever is something you don't want to mess around with.
I hope you feel better take it easy and let those little men take care off you. :grouphug:

Well, got the fever down to a dull roar. The dr is not concerned anymore. I am hitting the tail end of my first day without pain meds. I have drank enough water to float a house. Managed to take a few small walks around the apartment complex as per the dr's orders. (Nothing like having a bunch of kids follow you with a wagon just in case you weeble wobble too far. grin The neighbor kid's words to describe how I was walking)
Aspirin? Never touch the stuff. Just a wee bit allergic to it. But that information is good to know . Never know when it could come in handy.
One neighbor is aware of the fever and is now keeping a very close eye on me. (The apartment complex is doing the apartment shuffle due to the rehabilitation going on. She had to move shortly after I got home from the hospital. My turn will come after my recovery period. )
I was beginning to think I was going to start enjoying cold showers. Muffled shrieks could no longer be heard when I stepped under the shower.
Have no idea of what my stitches look like. They are all inside.
Well, I am tired. First day with no pain meds. Think I like this tired better than the drugged one.

If you are into homeopathic medicine. You can try willow bark tea. It has the same pain relieving properties as that of aspirin, but all natural & less of a chance of an allergic reaction. I'm not saying that you won't/can't have an allergic reaction, since anyone can be allergic to any of the plants out there. It's another option to pain relief & fever reduction. Although I can't remember if it will reduce fever as much/often/well as Tylenol or the similar type products. From what i do remember, it is a rather bitter tasting beverage, a little bit goes a long way, and like aspirin can help/cause the blood to thin. It's best to look things up before you try ANY home based remedies.
I hope you get to feeling better, & take it easy. :bath: :grouphug: :hearts:

Rest a lot , and listen to the Doctor :D  ! You also could cool down a bit by rubbing pepermint oil on your body . And lets someone else get it ( if you want to try that ) ! ! !
