Our first official faire of the season is Silver Leaf near Kalamazoo. This has become our "Get your feet wet faire", first figuratively and now almost literally. We debuted the Local at this faire and had our first official Wench Walk there.

We found it usually too hot and muggy to get much of a walk in, so we offered the entertainment director a win-win deal. We collect for a charity, which is good PR for the faire and Guild, we provide an interactive show, also good for the faire, we get to kick up our heels a little and get cooled off as well. Local 57 takes a stage for a session of old fashioned Drench a Wench and then we turn it over to da boys for turn about of Soak a Bloke.

The proceeds of the interactive event/show go to breast cancer research, or as the boys lovingly coin it, The Save the Boobie fund.

Many say the Guilds are about fun, not Rocket Science. (Waves Hiya to Cyd and Keltik<g>) in this case, it is rocket science, as much as a wet sponge is a projectile. <g>

Anyway, its controlled mayhem, all in fun, nice and cooling on a hot summer's day, gets a good response from everyone, wenches, rogues, management and patrons.

When I say oldfashioned DaW and SaB I refer to the old haybale version of very early Tux. 3 sponges for a buck, over hand tosses. If ya hit da target ya get a reward of a kiss on da cheek. The targets sit along the edge of a stage, the participant stands at the back row of the seats, depending on the size of the audience area of course. Children get special distance compensation. If hit, the target jumps down, returns the sponge to the bucket attendent and gives the winner their reward. Okay, so we fight to get hit, it feels good, last year we had ice water in ther bucket on a 100 plus degree day. Yes, its sometimes rigged as targets dive for sponges to give the person a reward for their charity donation. We have hawkers, sponge/money attendents and guards scattered for crowd control and protection. The guys usually need more protection than the girls. Tee Hee. We keep it light, fast and carnival style and in control. Lots of inuendo and innocent, okay, semi innocent, oneliners of double entendre.

We raised a nice chuck of change last year. It may not work at every faire, it works at this one.

I'll let the other flavors of wenches in 57 speak of some of the other things. Some of the wenches helped at a Ren themed silent auction last fall. We've had at least one wench, who is an amazing woman, wench and person, who raised a grand, I think, by herself, walking this year for March of Dimes.

We haven't done huge things, but each that is helped is a step forward

Keep those ideas coming!
Responsible Wenches, wench responsibly.

We did the same thing the first year of Stockwood at the old site. We were also diving for the sponges. It was a good time.
