With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person which almost went unnoticed last week. Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey," died peacefully at age 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started....

Hushhhhhh!!!
You know it's funny...for those of you old enough to have danced the hokey pokey

I once saw the Hokey Pokey as if it had been written by Shakespeare.

... I wonder if I can track that down again ...
(goes poking  through old web bookmarks)

LOL! I had this one in favorites....

The Hokey Pokey (W. Shakespeare)

O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke,
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from Heavens yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the poke -- banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about.
-- by William Shakespeare

Wasn't it George Carlin who said something along the lines of...

"Scary thought. What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?"

Hehe....we did a little impromptu singing at Ren in the Pines last weekend (courtesy of Jeannie, who had her fabulous books from the Singing Muses with her)--one of the ones we sang was "The Hoke, The Poke."

"...verily I say 'tis what it's all about!"
