Yeah, their just parakeets but boy are they characters! I love 'em! I bred conures and cockatiels years and years ago and haven't had a bird since I lost my Jake (quaker parrot) in 2001.

My hubby bought a cage, supplies, etc., and surprised me with Pip (back) and Squeak (front) over the weekend!

Though not usually a fan of birds, my sister in law has a parrot and half a dozen cockatiels.

They can be full of antics.. and your 'keets' are really lovely. May you be blessed with many years of enjoyment with your new companions.

My first pet ever was a green parakeet named Flattleflull...I accidentally let him out for a walk one day...

My BFF's mom raises cockatiels...I wanna say she has about a dozen...

they are cute - but boy I do not need to add to my menagerie...

I've actually thought about a way to incorporate my furry babies into my garb and try to sneak them in to faire....I could see Pyewacket now in a little eye patch...Lilly-belle would be lovely in a mini MFM...you could wear Pip and Squeak on a hat and just pretend they are like those cable-driven dragons!

They are so cute!

I had parakeets when I was 12. God, they would put their beaks into the birdseed and flick their heads so the seed would fly out of the cage and all over the floor. I think they liked the sound. It couldn't be because they just wanted to annoy me, right?

We had a parakeet for a brief time that we'd gotten from my brother & sister-in-law. What they didn't tell us was that he already knew how to sound like someone knocking on the door, and MEOW!::whistle::
We spent entirely too much time answering the door and looking for the cat!

The birds cage hung in an arched "window" that looked from the den into the breakfast nook, and the cat was forever trying to get to him, and could regularly be found 'just a-swayngin' on the occasions that he managed to leap just right and catch part of the bottom of the cage with his front paws. Eventually, rather than have a bird dead of a heart attack from the cat swinging his cage, we found a cat-free home for him. About 2 years later, when we were moving out of the house and doing a huge 'scrub the walls from the ceiling to the floor' sort of cleaning, in the top of the archway, we found a little speck of parakeet poop! Never did figure out exactly how he managed to do that UPWARD.

One reason for my "not usually a fan of birds" comment... second husband's mother had a pair... in the corner of the kitchen... (the kitchen had to be 12 x 16)... I was constantly wiping "it" off the cabinet doors on the oposite corner of the room above the door handles... 18 foot shots of explosive poop, higher than the cage.. no thanks.

Parakeets don't normally power-poop, something is wrong if they are. I had my first one in Junior high and when that one passed got another in highschool. After that I had a huge english budgie and moved onto conures, cockatiels, ringnecks and quakers after my daughter was born.

Freebird was wondering yesterday why Squeak was slinging food everywhere, lol! Just lookin' for the good stuff!

Oh, I'm pretty sure that the one of the cat's swinging episodes is what prompted the upwards shot by the bird

the REALLY funny part was seeing the cat, hanging from the cage as it swayed back and forth, trying to look innocent as the bird went berserk. Dopey cat, never could figure out how to get himself back down again.

also funny was seeing him try to find the meowing cat that he was convinced had been sneaked into the house when he wasn't looking

:-) Pip and Squeak have sure lucked out having you as a birdie mum! And aren't they just adorable! They look like they're totally in kahoots with each other planning all sorts of mischief!

I've been toying wtih the idea of getting a budgie for Kermit, he could use company during the day.
