McDonald's Out Of McNuggets; Woman Calls Police

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - A Florida woman called 911 three times after being told that McDonald's was out of chicken McNuggets and she had already paid.

"This is an emergency. If I would have known they didn't have McNuggets, I wouldn't have given my money, and now she wants to give me a McDouble, but I don't want one," Latreasa L. Goodman told police. “This is an emergency."

The McNugget meltdown happened last week at the McDonald's in Fort Pierce, Fla., and ended with Goodman, 27, getting a notice to appear on a misuse of 911 charge, NewsChannel5 sister station WPTV reported.

Goodman told investigators she tried to get a refund for the 10-piece McNuggets, but the cashier told her all sales are final.

"I called 911 because I couldn't get a refund, and I wanted my McNuggets," Goodman told police.

The cashier told police she offered Goodman, of the 2400 block of South 25th Street, a larger portion of food for the same price to make up for it, but said Goodman got “irate,” the report states.

Goodman reportedly yelled, "I don't want a McDouble and small fry," the cashier told investigators.

Dispatchers for 911 told police Goodman called the emergency number three times and on each occasion was told an officer was en route.

“Goodman maintained the attitude ‘this is an emergency, my McNuggets are an emergency,’” the report states.

McNuggets, introduced to the McDonald’s national menu in 1983, are sold in more than 100 countries and, unlike the McDouble, are often dunked in barbecue or hot mustard sauce.

Goodman’s 10-piece selection has 460 calories and 29 grams of fat.

It's nice to know that not getting exactly what you want at McDonald's warrants THREE calls to 911. "Misuse of the 911 system" is a bit of an understatement in this case.

In a very small way I can understand her point. If McD's is going to have a 'no refund' policy, then they should make darn sure they have product before selling it. It's really not that hard, "Hey, we ran out of nuggets, don't sell any right now!" It's a point of communication between employees/manager.

MFS, I agree. Lack of communication.

If I was the manager, I would have just given the crazy lady her money back, out of my own pocket, if necessary, just to get her out of the store.

The 911 calls? I agree she should be charged with misuse.

If she had talked to the manager calmly, she could have probably gotten herself the substitute food today AND a coupon for McNuggets at a later date due to the mix-up.

This woman should have to pay a fine for tying up 911 over this. It was NOT an emergency and she could very well have prevented someone with an actual emergency from getting help.

As for the no refunds. That policy should be rescinded in a case where they don't have an item that the person paid for. However, it doesn't make her 911 calls any more acceptable. :unamused:

She sounds like my clients who have mental health issues but are still in the community unchecked. Charges should occur. Maybe she's the sister of the woman who breastfed and drove.

I don't buy the no refund policy one bit.

I agree with you all. If they knew that they were out of McNuggets then they should not have sold any. This no refund policy that that McDonald's has is bullshit. The woman should have gotten her money back period. As for her 911 calls what was she thinking. That was no emergency, that was just her being a bitch. You all are right charges should be filed against her for misuse of 911 calls.

I DON'T THINK SHE WAS HONEST ABOUT THE REFUND. I'VE BEEN THERE MYSELF MANY TIMES (I HAVE 5 KIDS) AND THEY ALWAYS GIVE A REFUND IF THEY ARE OUT. I THINK SHE WAS DEFINATELY CRAZY AND HAD A MENTAL BREAKDOWN OVER THE MCNUGGETS!! I MEAN THEY'RE GOOD, BUT, NOT THAT GOOD!!!::kooky::

I suppose they don't have 311 service (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-1-1)in that city?

The girl -- who btw is old enough to know better -- should have followed the chain of management command. This was no emergency, lady. I promise you, had she gone through the chain of command, she would have probably gotten either a refund or some sort of raincheck for her purchase.

Stupid stupid stupid. Both parties handled this like babies.

Woman is nuts.....
I'm betting that she was lying about the refund policy. McDonalds will give a refund in 99% of all cases of an unsatisfied customer. I'm wondering if she refused a refund or did not ask for one. Policy is for them to offer you a replacement item first and then a refund.

If it was a busy day, the time between when the grill team realizes there are no more nuggets and the time the sale takes place might not be enough to alert the cashiers. It could be that they had 4 orders of 10 piece nuggets and only 30 left. If everyone wanted nuggets that day (I've seen it happen) then they probably ran out sooner than expected.

I heard a clip of the 911 call on the radio this morning and I have to commend the operator for not cracking up. I know they HAVE to send a cop out on these calls, but to me it just sounds like something from Reno 911. This would be hilarious if it weren't true!

Sadly, 911 gets these kinds of calls all the time.

You think that the biggest chain in the universe would have learned something with the coffee incident. I know it was hot and burned her but hello, lady you should have been careful. Mickey dD's know now that people will sue, complain about anything now. Maybe after this they will change the policy?

Just listened to the 911 clip myself.

She's an idiot and rightfully deserves her mugshot thrown around the internet and fodder for ridicule.

I just think she's a dumbass becuase it's cheaper to order (3) 4 piece nuggets at a buck than pay the 5+ for a 10 piece. Duh! What a loser.

My little 911 story.

During my brief time as a police dispatcher I answered a few calls from the local psychiatric hospital, Patients called 911 from the pay phone claiming to be locked in against there will and to please send help to get them out. My 2nd favorite call was the person from the same hospital who understood she called 911 but could we, if she gave me the number transfer her to her friends phone.

I know you all are dying to know my No. 1 favorite 911 call... A driver shortly after Sept 11th on a local parkway called to report she saw Osama bin Laden driving westbound in a beat up mini van. What a better place to hideout but Yonkers New York.

So the nuggets thing was very tame. If it was not for those strange and funny calls answering 911 call can and will drive you crazy.

Um that said... Could anyone out there transfer my call... they seem to have locked the door to the day room.again..

I'm guessing the woman didn't speak to the manager?

This is just so farq'd up on so many levels I think I'm speechless.

Isn't this the same "Fort Pierce, Fla." that, not long ago, had a man screaming out the back of a police car over stealing M&Ms?

.. those people need to stop drinking the water down there.. sum'p'n...

I liked Jimmy Fallon's take on this story: "That's wrong. By tying up the 911 lines over McDonalds being sold out of Chicken McNuggets, she prevented them from helping people who were dying from having eaten Chicken McNuggets."
