I really really really really hate it when people come here from other countries and all they do is say how horrible America and Americans are. Today at work there was a group of French men, one of whom did not bring his ID. They were all between 22 and 26, the bar tender would not let the one without ID drink, and I don't blame him. So at the end of the night all me and my co-workers heard was :censored: American scum, right in our faces, and then the moron got in a cop's face. IF YOU DON'T LIKE AMERICA GO HOME, WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE, sorry for yelling :x it just makes me so mad. If I were ever to travel out of the country, which I would love to someday, the first thing I would do is research the laws. I'm done now, sorry about that, just needed to get it out

I'm with you there - I remember how I felt when I was in college and the Shah was still in power in Iran. All of these Iranian students whose daddies sent them to college in the United States and put them up in style in their own homes with servants while most of we "peasants" struggled in crappy apts. or dorm rooms eating Ramen Noodles, would hold protests outside the student union demanding the U.S. get out of Iran and talking about how they'd overthrow our puppet, the Shah. Of course, cowards they were, they wore masks as they carried their signs and got their grade-A educations.
I took six years of French in school and I loved the language and the culture - but I don't like the attitude of anyone who comes here and bags on us. And I don't like the general attitude of the entire country of late - not backing other European countries and the US who've saved their frog asses many times over. Their arrogance is offensive.
I think I'd have said something snarky like, "Hey, nobody invited your frog ass into this country in the first place. Kind of begs the question why you're here if you hate us so much. Last I checked, the exit door was wide open - why don't you use it before it hits you in the ass on the way out?!"
Actually - I know several rather colorful insults in French that I'd use and I have a feeling they'd leave.

Just as a little flipside to this vent.....
My Rogue travels into some pretty remote areas of the world and has had quite a few people ask him why he would be in their countries when he has the "great US to live in".
He says he likes living in the US but its a real eye opener to go to 3rd world countries (or as close to, in some cases), hear what they perseve about the US and try to set the record straight. He's come home, shaking his head because of some of the things he hears on the news in these other countries about the US.
SOme people only hear the VERY negative and some only hear the very positive. Its not always a balanced description.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I DO know what you mean though when people insult the US after coming here of their own free will.
Like the saying goes in my house, "there's the door. use it."

I always say that if I ever go to France, I'll tell people I'm Canadian. Apparently, they don't think very highly of Americans there...

I just had to share this story...I went to France years ago, and they didn't like us even back then. I had grown up with Flemish and French grandparents so although I did not speak the language well, I definitely understood it. So when I was there, their biggest complaint was how rude we Americans were, however, the completely nasty, derogatory things they would say to each other right in front of us was way beyond anything I have ever heard an American say while visiting overseas.
Watching the arrogance crumble and the flush of humiliation when they realized they had been perfectly understood and replied to in a more gracious manner was worth it though.
And as I have watched the political scene develop these last few years, they seem to have an even worse attitude than before. As deBaroness said, they are offensive.
