Hi all,

Has anyone ever used a quilt as a wall hanging? I'm trying to figure out how to hang a quilt in my daughter's nursery as it is still to big for her to actually use. But it's very whimsical and pretty and I thought it would be nice for her to look at (and pontentially a distraction to keep her from twisting off the changing table). Haven't the slightest clue as to go about hanging the darned thing though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

SOmeone i knew hung one by taking the quilt onto a 2x4 or so sized board the width of the quilt along the top and then used a wire like a picture frame. the wire was visible above the quilt, but it looked good.

You don't list the dimensions of the quilt. For sake of instruction let's have the quilt be 2 feet wide. Take a piece of fabric that is 6 inces wide by 24 inches long and sew under a scant 1/4 of an inch each edge that is 6 inches. Now fold the fabric in half lengthwise and sew a 1/2 seam down the fabric. Turn the sewn fabric inside out and you should have a tube. Iron the tube flat as it will make the next handsewing part easier. Pin the tube about 1/2 below the top edge of the quilt on the back side. Use any stitch you know to sew the tube to the quilt (sew the full length of the tube on the top of the tube and on the bottom of the tube) making sure you don't go through anything but the back layer of fabric and perhaps the batting which is the fluff in the middle. You just don't want your stitches to go through to the front and be seen. Now you can hang your quilt on any drapery rod you have. If you are going to use a large decorative rod you will want to make a wider fabric tube. If you want directions to make a wooden guilt hanger pm me as it will take up a lot of space.

You might try something like these. I used them to hang up some antique embroidered quilts that I didn't want do any damage to. And they were able to show the quilts off nicely. http://www.joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID=113057&PRODID=11911&rId=FRGL20050616

My grandma made me a quilt that I proudly have hanging in my guest room. It is the tree of life. It hangs above the bed and I was able to find wooden curtain holder at Target.

Of course you can always go with a wooden doll rod (depening on the thickness you want, and found at any home store) paint it any color that you want and hang it with curtain rod hangers at Target or Walmart. I hope this helps.
