Llamas Scare Drivers on Austria Highway

Updated 4:29 PM ET August 2, 2005

EISENSTADT, Austria (AP) - Two llamas escaped from a zoo and took to the road Tuesday, scaring drivers on a highway in eastern Austria, police said.

One driver called police to report that "a man was running around on the highway, trying to capture two llamas," police officer Wilfried Tonhofer told The Associated Press.

A zoo employee eventually caught the animals using a lasso.

No one was hurt, but some drivers slammed their brakes at the sight of the animals. Though llamas aren't allowed on highways, no charges will be filed, Tonhofer said.

The llamas had escaped before, but never gotten so far. However, their brief Tuesday escape might lead to a permanent relocation; zoo owner Samier Dergham said he wants to find them a new home to avoid further escapes.

I really couldn't resist. I had to post this.

I think the phrase "lassoing llamas" could come in handy some day. :D

Here he is. He was a bit resistant, so I had to subdue him a bit.

Duct tape works well on ducks too! It really is a miracle.
no ducks were actually harmed for this pic

Don't you think "llassoing llamas" somehow looks more right?

AFLAC!!!

I just have to post this...

My clarinet teacher back in California used to be kind of a prick sometimes...I was bitching to a friend about him, and she said, "Oh, don't even worry about him, he's just an angry goose!" And the funny thing is, he DOES look like an angry goose!

Now, I know "AFLAC" is the duck...but somehow we started calling him AFLAC, because that's one angry duck!

Returning you to your regularly scheduled thread...
