I have been told repeatedly, that everyone hates work. Nobody actually enjoys getting up and going to thier job everyday, every job out there is a drudgery....etc... etc...

Is this really true? Please tell me that at least a few of you out there don't dread waking up to another day of workplace hell...has anyone out there found something, if not perfect, then managable and sometimes enjoyable?

We all have to work to support ourselves, but lately everyone seems to be telling me everybody hates thier jobs, but that is what you have to do.

Is everyone destined to fall into a dreadful corporate cog-I-am-not-human-machine like cycle?

Please tell me it isn't so!!!

Once, in a galaxy far far away I had a job that I didn't mind going to. Actually, I've had two.

One was retail (believe it or not). I worked with the most amazing people, and funny! We always had a blast. Customers used to tell me that they enjoyed being on line (during a busy day) because it was like watching a comedy troupe. We had alot of fun, which made our customers have fun which made it even more fun. Overtime was like a bonus.

I had another job where I didn't do much but surf the net all day and occasionally answer the phone. Plus, all the boys were really easy on the eyes, and most of them were really nice. It wasn't as much fun as the above job, but I didn't mind going in. Hardly ever any drama.

Now, I'm back in school (and getting good grades to boot!) and trying to get into a field that I can enjoy. Right now, it's architectural drafting and design associates. Then on to the bachelors for architecture. Never too late to change your career path, especially when one dind't have a path to begin with. Hopefully when all is said and done there, I'll have a dream job.

I guess it all comes down to whether or not you find your dream job. I personally hate my job, hate my boss, and everything else about it. :pfft: My father on the other hand loved his job. Started at eighteen as a pole puller for AT&T, (actually it was Bell Atlantic then) and when he retired he was a senior engineer with Verizon (after the merger). had one job his whole life and loved going into work everyday. After he retired he went back to work for them as a consultant and is still working for them.
You just have to find the right one I guess, me, I'm still looking!!

I have had a few jobs I've really loved. The first one I remember, I helped my mum at a Hallmark store that she managed. I was 10 or 11 and would go in with her during the summer and during school holidays. It was sooo much fun. I did everything from re-stocking cards & wrap to running the register to decorating for the holidays. Now, everyone blames my mum for my obsession with going to Hallmark stores :D

I've worked at a few fastfood places and depending on the people you work with, it could be heaven or hell. Most of the time, we had fun so I couldn't really say I hated my job.

I think the job I loved the most was, a balloon delivery service (Balloon-a-gram). Just seeing the happiness that a few balloons and ribbon could bring was great. The unique ideas for sending balloons never ceased to amaze me.

The job I miss the most, working at the bakery. Unfortuneately, the woman that owned it tried to grow too big too fast. She closed down 4 months after I got laid off. :(

I have had a few jobs I loved. One of my most recent was also in retail. Great group of people, awesome owners of the shop, great merchandise (crystals, gems, incense, fairies, cool clothes, tarot etc....was like playing every day).....I acutally looked forward to going in every day.

More recently, not happy. I mostly like my bosses, but just burned out on the work. So time to move on and find that fun and happiness that makes me want to get out of bed.

Don't give up and don't ever think you have to settle for something that doesn't fulfill your soul as well as your pocketbook.

Ok... I have to say it...

I LOVE MY JOB

I love coming into work each day, I love my paycheck, I love my projects, my work schedualy, my co-workers, and I really really love what I do... sorry I really do have one of my "dream jobs" right now, the only thing that would make this job better is more money (and I'm already makinh a butt-load as it is but who cant use more money?)

I'm with you Eric... took me forever, but I have a job I really love.

The work is interesting, love the co-workers, my boss if fab and they encourage new ideas and new ways of doing things.

I've had jobs that I hated, I mean REALLY hated - I'd leave crying because I was so miserable and it saps your soul. It IS possible to really love your job.

Sadly, now that I've found this dream job, it looks like I'll have to leave it - we're probably moving.... guess I'll have to see if lightning can strike twice! *g*

I love my job as well. I agree the paycheck could be better, but I teach for the challenges it presents not for the paycheck.

I'm one of those who hate their jobs. I think I'm just burned out (after only 4 years) by the whole thing. The only good thing about my job is I have an office/building completely to myself and never have to see my bosses except when I go in to the main office for supplies, which I do rarely and late at night. Most of my communication with the bosses is by phone or email.
Right now we employees are in contract talks with management, which is trying really hard to screw us. I think that's another reason I'm unhappy.
I'm looking to move on and hopefully find something I like!

I really love my job too. I think no matter what, we could ALL agree to wanting/needing more money. I get to run my own show in the office here, no one to really answer to, get to come and go as I please and can work from home if I feel like it when I'm not teaching (I teach 13 different computer courses to state and local law enforcement officials, FBI, Secret Service and Drug Treatment & Prevention personnel.) I have creative freedom and support and it's tons of fun.

I'm surrounded by hard pointy guns all day long, who could ask for more, lol!

I loved working as a vet tech. I loved working as a sleep tech. I loved being a full time student. My current job has potential for being loved as soon as we get off the ground - now I'm just bored.

The only jobs I've had that I've hated have been when I've had a bad boss. Otherwise, I make the best out of it I can. Call my Pollyanna...

I hate my job....SERIOUSLY HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!

So I work in a law office as a legal assistant. My boss is a drunken asshole who waits until the day of court to get shit done. I get pulled in all directions at once because certain things "have to be done now!" and they wonder why I don't have time for billing! Which (step in the right direction I suppose) I've corrected by telling my boss to do them himself! This place has brought me to tears many times from sheer anger. I'm sittin' at poverty level, have no benefits whatsoever, I've gone without food before so my son had plenty and I get yelled at on a regular basis because as my boss states, "I don't pay you to think!". Oh, did I mention I could sue for harrassment if I had the money! Well, more of derogatory statements and I shouldn't show my lower legs because it distracts the old men. Yeah, I HATE my job. But I really have no choice at the moment.

I've never loved going to work, never had a job that I found fun and interesting. The best time I have is working faires because it's not really work to me. Yeah I'm acting on stage or trying to sell roses and whatnot but it's not work to me. If I could make enough to last me year round at what I make now...if not more...I'd drop "real" jobs in a heartbeat.

I love my job ! :D
I work there for 15 years now ( retail , a shop that sell items from the Far-East ) and I love the fact that I do all sorts of different things ! I manage my own department , order items , work as a cashier , stock items , interact with all sorts of customers and . . . . gossip with my co-workers  !

Although I don't have my 'dream job' and there are aspects of my job that I'm not thrilled with, overall I have to say I like my job.

I like the people I work with -- and that's the biggest part of it. When I first started doing this job at another office, I hated it -- I had a manager who liked to pit people against each other, creating an environment that was not welcoming, not friendly, very cliquish -- I used to have late duty nights and cry to the one co-worker whom I liked and trusted -- out of frustration.

I'm in a different office now where my manager is supportive, understands the demands family makes on you, makes sure everyone gets along and promotes comraderie.

Could I be making more money? Hell, yeah! Do I have days when I want to kick something? Sure.

But I've had jobs I've *hated* with every fibre of my being.

This ain't one of them. Not by a long shot.

I love my job. I am the manager of a photolab/ camera store/ photo studio/ custom framing store. Its funny, but it seems as though most of us in retail like it. As with anything there are things i hate (grouchy customers, people who try to blame their bad photography on us), but for the most part im happy. My boss is great, Its a family owned type business, so no corprate idiots in another state tellin me what to do. He is really good at getting rid of idiot co-workers.

Most of my jobs ive loved, daycare, cake decorating and fast food. I think alot of it has to do with attitude. the people who hate retail are the ones who think they are to good for it, for the most part, but I could never do a desk job, id be miserable.

I do agree that the pay could be better, and unfortunately i thin that is a trade off alot of us make, less $, but we are happy! My BF makes a good amount more than me, but he hates his job and is often miserable because of it. If he could deal with less money and do soemthing he likes i think he would be alot happier, but he says that he doesnt mind hating his work so he can have more $ for play time. So i guess its all in what you are willing to give up

I love my current job. It is my fifth in a very large, maybe too large bank. Two of those five brought me to tears, stress hives, anxiety attacks. The good part of being so large is the internal posting possibilities. I've been able to stay within the same company, thereby keeping seniority (= more vacation), my benefits, vesting in 401k, etc.

I still have stressed out days. I am fairly new in this position and still have lots to learn. I am also still studying for my licensing. I got my Series 7 in June, but I have to pass the Series 66 to become registered in MA. Then the job will become more interesting and will pay better.

However, if I won the lottery tomorrow, as soon as that check had cleared my bank accoiunt, I would come in for my personal stuff and give my two minute notice. :haloslip:

Agreed, there are some benifits to working for a big company, better benefits mainly. Ins was cheaper and they had a 401. However I would still take the flexibility of a small company over a big one. It used to drive me nuts working in a chain store and getting informed by some guy in Rhode Island that my waste percentage was too high or i had too many peoplke working in the lab when they had no idea what was actually going on in the store.

Seems like a good mix of yays and nays.

I've liked most of my jobs, at the beginning at least. And true, it does have a lot to do with attitude. I am working fast food now, and there are certain groups of people I work with that make the job easier to handle. But the stupidity, and the constant pushing for stupid stuff, and bieng jerked around like you are not human REALLY ticks me off. So do the customers. I swear, we replace so much food for people lying thier asses off...so much that now employees can't even get our 4 dollar meal free. Tiny little things, all the time. There is little to no creativity going on, and once you know the job, you know the job, and BORING.

Plus, the more I work here, the more people spit on our window and cuss at us, and make lewd comments, the more I really start to get aggravated with humanity...puts a damper on your optimism. I've been pushed over the edge with anxiety and well, various other problems in every job I've worked at...I don't think you should cry every time you go to work, and when you go home...because you dread the next day.

Plus, the money sucks, but hey...ya'll knew that...lol

most of the time i like my job....I hate that we don't have the tools we need that work consistently (puter programs) to do what we need to do...95 % of our system has been down since 7am at almost 2 they finally decided to shut our phones off...someday want to be able to go to school full time w/o worrying about bills
