Like my recent rant on polls...this has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether or not you believe in Atlantis. It has EVERYTHING to do with the money that can be made off it.
Here's the story:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050804/us_nm/cyprus_atlantis_dc
The fact is...there's a whole shitload of stuff we've yet to discover about the ancient world. The VERY ancient world I mean.
It's unfortunate that in these days...every nitwit who discovers something about a pre-Bronze Age Mediterranean civilization just automatically HAS to scream out that he's (or she's) found Atlantis.
Maybe it's NOT Atlantis. Does that make the discovery any less wonderful? Or fascinating? NO!!!
However...when you look at this line from the story...the whole sad picture starts to become clear:
"There is not one scientist in the world who can explain these formations as natural ones," said Sarmast, who said he had clinched a contract with a Hollywood production house to produce a two hour documentary next year."
OK...there we go. The real reason. Never mind that this discovery might actually be fairly significant in OTHER areas. It just HAS to be about Atlantis in order to sell the product.
Sad. Sad sad frikin' sad. :?
