Just sad.

A mad rush happened this morning when the gates opened at 7 a.m. at the Richmond International Raceway for Henrico County School’s $50 i-book laptop computer sale. The much-anticipated computer sale started at 9 a.m. but many people came late last night to wait outside the gates in line.

When the gates finally opened, several people were hurt with scraps and bruising as the crowd rushed in. One woman with a one-year-old child pushed in, but her stroller was crushed in the rush.

The County is selling the 1,000 surplus computers to Henrico county residents because it has switched from i-book to Dell computers. People wanting to buy a computer must prove they live in Henrico County and are only allowed to buy one computer per person.

This happened this morning near where I live. People were trampled, and a strollor destroyed just for a used $50 apple I book. For the 1000 I-books avaliable I think they said over 5,000+ people showed including people from different states. I saw pictures of the strollor. My Goddess  If the child wasn't pulled free in time! (which it was). Are we so technology driven and money driven as to stoop to this? Oh wait, obviously we are. (Come on people, get a life, it's just an apple)

My mother wanted us to go pick up one of those laptops this morning, but hearing about the line at 5am made her change her mind. I'm glad we didn't go. Plus, it's an apple. No one in my family owns anything compatible with it nor would we know how to use it. Plus, that's the reason they were on sale in the first place! I'm horrified at the outcome, but not really surprised. That's Richmond for you! :?

Snort. Y'all just don't understand the beauty that is OSX, that's all. I have to work on a PC in the office. I want to work on my G4 desktop or PowerBook all the time.

Many people need to use computers for work or school. Trampling is unacceptable, but come on, if there was a several thousand dollar purchase you were planning to make, and had the chance to get it for only $50, it might be worth the long wait. I can't think of any other legal way to come out $2000 ahead for just one night's effort.

These I-books have been used by teenagers in high school for I think 3 years and the county said if it crashes the day of or any time after you buy it, you'r SOL. They make no promises as to the condition, material, and or memory space on them. Many people could end up with a $50 paperweight buy tomorrow.

PS, I bought a gateway laptop from Tigerdirect for only $599. Original retail was $2999. I think that was a bargin. That's cheap tp me and it was delivered to my home. it was less than I have spent on Garb in the past!

Spend $50 on an iBook. Spend another few hundred if it has problems. You're still coming out WAY ahead.

I don't object to selling used latops at a cheap price, I have a problem with the mad dash for them. If strollers are being trampled and people are getting hurt, then I don't really think the deal is worth it. :(

As long as you're the trampler and not the tramplee, it's a good deal. :)
