View Full Version : Ladies, A Serious Warning!!!

On Saturday at the MN REN Faire a lady was slipped some kind of drug in her drink. I only learned of this because I was working for a couple and the lady of the pair is a flilght attendant. A man from the shop next door came in and alerted us that there was a lady in the shop next door who was screaming and crying and behaving really strangely. Luckily this pool woman was with her sister and brother-in-law, who were able to help her out, and the lady I was working for had a great calming effect. Its terrible to have to be afraid at Faire, but think of all the dark and deserted spots a drugged woman can wind up--its like instant victim! So I am begging you ladies, be alert with regards to where your drink is at all times--if you have left it DON'T DRINK IT!!! Hope I'm not overstepping here, but please be careful. This happened at about 6, an hour before faire ends.

You are definitely not overstepping. Crap like this has happened before and is certain to happen again. Thank you for sharing and reminding everyone that even though we feel comfortable and safe at faire we still need to keep our guard up. Not everyone in the world is looking out for our best interests and faire is not imune to wackos.
Thanks again...

A friend told me this had happened at her faire this year also. She asked that she be able to verify it before it was put to the public. The story was that a few women were drugged at GLMF.
I second...be very careful at faire.
I think faire is bringing out the wackos more and more lately. It's bad enough the wacks are taking our pictures...now they are going to drug and rape us to boot. Great...just great. :censored:
Strange that this was posted because my man's cousin is a bartender here at one of the local "yuppie" type hang outs... When her back was turned someone slipped her the date rape drug and she woke up the next day in the hospital getting an IV to flush it out. Mind you she is a mother of two very small children, lucky for her she has family that helped out while she was in the hospital. Also lucky that she had to work a little late that night and it hit her while she was at work so her co-workers were able to make sure she was cared for...but if she had left at her regular shift-end, who knows what could have happened. freekin animals...

I think this is an unfortunate side effect of faires growing in popularity and mainstream acceptance. Rape, drugs and assault have been well-recognised problems for years in other public entertainment venues. How many of you would attend a metal concert alone, or leave a drink unattended at a crowded night club? What we're seeing now are the growing pains of the transition from being a small community to a broad public event.

I don't think it really has much to do with the growing popularity of faires specifically. Just that where there are people, there are sickos. And with more people at a faire, or a bar, or a mall even (happened here at the Garden State Plaze, somone was slipped a drug then followed to her car), the more you'll have this shit happening. It's an everywhere thing. Be aware. That is all.

Thanks so much for the heads-up! It is too easy to get lulled into a sense of security...reality check!

What an eye opener that is. I am very free spirited at faire because i have always felt safe there. Many thanks for the heads up, it never crossed my mind that something this horrible could happen at a place where i am least likely to be on guard.

Was everyone here asleep through the whole cleagave-photo thing? The rape at Pennsic that just happened? We're NOT safe. It's 2005, we don't live in Utopia, and we have to be careful everywhere. It's sad, it sucks, but that's life. ALWAYS be careful. ALWAYS watch your drink. Use common sense.
And, as always, look out for each other.

Totally, we have to watch ourselves wherever we go. There are crazies everywhere just looking for a chance to take advantage of an unsuspecting person. Fair to me is no different than anywhere else.

That's why we've got to keep an eye out for each other. Now that we are aware, we can be more careful. And if something seems amiss, we have support.

WE ALL HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR ALL WOMEN!
This is a scary thing that is becoming more popular in a lot of places. This is a scary thing and as it was said before just cuz you are at faire you cannot let your gaurd down.
And the scary thing is that alot of my friends that were working the Colrado faire have gone to that faire.
