Well we are doing an oktoberfest and we are trying to find recipes that appeal to the masses, and not our oddly tuned taste buds if anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!!
As of now we have beer soaked wurst, homemade saurkraut, cucumber salad, german potato salad. But not to many people like the beets, we had them last year, not a big hit.
Also, I have lost my favorite gingerbread recipe (the dog ate my cookbook) and was wondering if anyone had one that i might be able to try???

I have my Moms (German) Sauerbraten recipe - it is easy to make, but needs to marinate for at least four days to be really yummy. It has a Ginger Snap gravy with it, and we serve it with Spaetzel. Let me know if you are interested. I have also made it with Pork with good results, blut blanking on the German name for it!
You should also try www.epicurious.com and see what they have - I love that site, and if you read through the reviews of each recipe (sometimes the score is deceiving) you can get some good insight. Good Gingerread recipes on it as well!
When I had my fests in the past, I always had everyone bring some of their favorite beer - we had a "beer tasting" before we ate dinner, and I served Liver Sausage, Cheese and crackers with it.

German Alps Fest? When? Where?
As for recipes, I've got an Oktoberfest Cookbook that I got at Williamsburg VA back in the late 70s...
Kartoffelsuppe (Potato Soup)
Quer durch den Garten Suppe (Clear Across the Garden Soup)
Nudelsuppe (Beef Noodle)
Karnival Krautsalat (Carnival Coleslaw with Apples)
Kartoffel-Klosse (Potato Dumplings)
KartoffelKuchlein (Potato Pancakes)
Rotkohl (Red Cabbage) (My favorite which is slightly sweet & sour)
Spatzle (homemade noodles)
Rouladen (Beef Roll-ups)
Weiner Schniztl
And let's not forget dessert:
Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte (aka Black Forest Cherry Cake)
Kokosnuss Kuchen (Coconut Cake)
Apfelstrudel (Apple Strudel)
Springerle Cookies
Let me know if you want any of the recipes. I know I want a few things now that I've been looking thru the recipes... Hmm, maybe I'll make the Kartoffelsuppe and ask my father to make the Rotkohl... He makes that in a big batch served in a crockpot for family get togethers.
