The original recipe appeared in 'The Treasury of Creative Cooking' from the editors of Consumer's Guide and was developed by a lady named Lorraine Bourgois.
I have tweeked her recipe enough to call it 'mine; 13 C. chicken broth divided 1/4 C. butter or margarine 1 C. heavy cream 1 package (12 oz.) frozen or dry egg noodles 1 1/2 C. water 3/4 C. all purpose flour 2 C. diced cooked chicken salt and pepper to taste 1/4 C. finely chopped parsley for garnish (optional) Combine 1 cup broth and butter in a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil and cook until liquid is reduced to 1/4 cup and has a syrupy consistency. Stir in cream and set aside. Bring remaining broth to a boil in a Dutch Oven or soup pot. Combine water and flour in a separate bowl, beating until smooth. Stir flour mixture into the broth and boil for 2 min. until thickened, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium and add in chicken and reserved cream mixture. Cook for 2 min. Add in egg noodles and cook until noodles are done. Do not boil. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Ladle soup into bowls and garnish with parsley if desired. OK - that is the basic recipe I use when I am cooking for the clan. HG does not like it when I add the "extra gross stuff" in. ![]() As for the above mentioned "extra gross stuff", I have made it with mushrooms before which is really good (I halved the button mushrooms and then added them to the soup to cook right before I added the noodles.). I have also added diced cooked carrots, diced cooked celery and diced cooked potatoes. It's good, but I still prefer just the chicken and noodles or the addition of the mushrooms. Enjoy!

Perfect choice for current MI weather. I'm glad I don't actually pay heat bills (apartment) because I would be ticked that I had to turn the heat on in Sept. Brrrr.
