Well... Fred Phelps has a following, too.

For every possible variation of any given theme, there'll be some people who follow it. It's up to the sane folks to speak out against the loonies.

You're so right... man, you are SO right!

One thing I find fascinating, though, is that sometimes the loonies win in the end, to a certain degree. Just look at Scientology!

The story of Jesus turning the water into wine at the marriage feast in Cana truly shows us that if we come to Jesus and God as clean as the pots he called for, he will change us and fill us with the Holy Spirit. Can that tale be told with modern examples and still hold the same message? Sure it can. That is the type of 'tinkering' with the Bible I don't care about.
Threadjacking slightly just to say...I have never heard this interpretation of the story of Cana and the water to wine before, but wow, does it fit! I've only ever heard it used as a "save the best for last" (heaven being the "last" after earth) as far as the wine goes. I'm sure I've heard it used to illustrate other points as well, but never what you just said. I like that!

Ah, here we go. I knew I would be able to find one of the new translations. This one is as accurate as they can get. CN says so.
